  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Last night I went out for some drinks with friends and got the chance to smoke a few cigars from the newbie sampler that jolietilfire sent me. As per the agreement here's my reviews...

Arturo Furente Fonseca:

This cigar has a smooth, light tan Connecticut wrapper without very prominent veins. The pre-light smell was a little like that of cut grass. The draw was perfect and the burn was spot on. The ash held well and the cigar produced copious amounts of thick smoke. I'm normally not fond of smaller ring sizes, but this cigar felt good in the hand and not dainty like most smaller sizes have in the past. What I didn't really care for was the mild flavor. It was creamy, but the finish reminded me a little of Marlboro cigarettes :disappoin. While it was a decent cigar, it just wasn't for me (too mild). I may be tempted to try the Maduro version of this cigar or a fuller strength cigar of the same size as it made for a nice shorter smoke.

Nub Maduro:

I have been wanting to try a Nub as I keep hearing good things about them and I was not disappointed . Probably the most enjoyable cigar I've had in my short spate as an "aficionado". The pre-light smell was that of a slight sweetness with undertones of tobacco. Once lit the first puff had me hooked. There was a blast of pepper through the nose which subsided some but was present through the whole smoke. I detected some woody (or perhaps nutty, I'm still undecided) flavors along with some slightly sweet/chocolaty flavors. While this wasn't a complex cigar, it was good...all of it. There was a bit of a burn issue about half way through, but nothing that a little touch up didn't solve and it didn't really detract from my enjoyment of the cigar. I will definitely be getting more of these for my humi.

Thanks again to jolietilfire for such a nice sampler. I look forward to smoking the rest.

Dan

Thanks for the reviews Dan. That Fonseca really wasnt anything special(at all). At least you reviewed it! Thanks for taking the time to do the reviews as well. This was my hope with these samplers. I think doing these reviews myself since joining botl has helped my palate improve.
