Another unseasonable, but beautiful day. Even nicer than yesterday!
Size: 5 x 44
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Price: $3.50 - 4.50
Intro: From the Joya de Nicaragua website:
First Third: Flavors start out as a mixture of spices...something close to cinnamon and nutmeg I'd say. Also an oatmeal-ish flavor. Quite nice and smooth. Definitely not what you'd expect considering the marketing as a stong cigar. Soon a leather flavor joins the mix, mostly making itself known on the finish. The burn is straight and the ash a light gray and holds strong.
Second Third: In the second thrid the leather becomes more prominant with the spices fading to the background and the oatmeal disappearing altogether. Towards the end of the second third there is a mint like coolness on the tongue. Not a mint flavor, more like that coolness you get when you eat a mint. The burn goes a bit haywire, needing several touchups. Ash still holds strong.
Last Third: In the last third the leather fades to a subtle reminder on the finish. This part of the cigar is dominated by a spice and bready flavor. Reminds me a lot of a banana bread, but without the banana. The burn contined to be a little off, but wasn't anything major.
Final Thoughts: This cigar, in this size, has quickly become a favorite. They are not as strong as they try to make you believe, but I would still rank it full bodied so still not a cigar you should smoke on an empty stomach...or even after a light snack. I have sampled a few other sizes and wasn't all that impressed, but this size is good. Period. And for the price...simply awesome! The blend contains 75% ligero which means that burn problems are something you might experience without dry boxing.

Intro: From the Joya de Nicaragua website:
Prelight: The wrapper on this cigar is a lovely chocolate brown color, oily with several small veins. The seams are tight and the cap is neatly applied. There is a small water mark near the cap, but that would be the only visual imperfection...should still smoke the same. The cigar feels pretty hard when pressed between the fingers. The cigar features two gold embossed bands. The one on the foot reads "Doble Fuerte" which as mentioned above gives evidence to the cigar's strength. The other displays the brand. The aroma on this cigar is one of the best I've ever smelled on a cigar. Though faint at the moment, there is the unmistakable aroma of molasses and spice. Opening a box of these smells like a bakery! Swift snap of the Palio and the cap is severed cleanly leaving a superb draw. The cold draw wasn't very strong, but featured a fleeting spicy, bready flavor. Let's get this puppy lit...Antaño Dark Corojo is the embodiment of the Nicaraguan power cigar personified. The oily, seal brown capa serves as foreshadowing for the extra full-bodied flavors of its complex, pungent blending of mature, locally cultivated leaf.
With each draw, this puro builds in strength to leave even the most jaded smoker satisfied and spent. This is a cigar for the experienced connoisseur who not only appreciates, but craves unadulterated boldness in their cigars novices need not light.
