Not trying to show up or even hold a candle to shuckins, but since I haven't seen a review for these, I figured I'd do a little write up on it.
K. A. Kendall 7-20-4
Size: 5.5x48 (actually called the "7-20-4")
Blend: Brazilian Mata Fina around Nicaraguan, Honduran, Colombian, and Mexican tobaccos
Appearance: Very classic looking band, which I dig. Smooth wrapper with a light oily sheen to it. Solid roll, feels a bit light, but looking in the end I can tell its full. I definitely like the pig-tail. Overall feels like quality construction.
Pre-light: Cuts cleanly. Very faint grassy sweetness on the cold draw, but not much other flavor. Draw is fairly loose.
1st Third: Lights pretty easily, with initial tastes of grass and earth with a hint of spice. Huge amount of smoke on the very first puff which surprised me.
After a few puffs, the grassy-ness has faded, and has a more leathery taste with a hint of sweetness I can't quite place (cedar maybe?) 1st inch burned fairly quickly, but the burn is perfect, and its putting out plumes of woodsy smoke that I'm really enjoying.
2nd Third: The ash is very solid and holding well. The cedar and leather have taken over, and I'm wondering where that hint of spice went...
Ash fell at ~2 inches. The finish is fairly long, leaving a leathery feel on my tongue. The quality of the construction is showing, with spot-on burn and the draw continuing to be perfect.
A little bit softer music this morning, Breaking Benjamin and Shaman's Harvest. Still good stuff though :cbig:
This stick isn't overly complex, and is more of a medium strength smoke.
Final Third: Still leathery, cedary, earthy goodness that goes well with my coffee. I would like a little more strength, but I don't think this is designed to be spicy or strong, but that's fine with me. I'm liking it just like it is.
Burn continues to be razor sharp, not even a hint of wavering. It started getting a tad warm with ~1" left, but it didn't affect the smoothness or flavor at all.
Final Thoughts: I picked a couple of these up as an order filler from NHC, and for $6.75 (for the CG size) you'd be hard pressed to find a stick with better construction or quality of flavor. It's got all the makings of a stick that could easily cost $2-3 more, but at a price point that is definitely going to allow it into my daily rotation.
Smoking Time: 1:00
Score: B+ (89)
If you haven't had the chance to try these yet, I highly recommend them.
Thanks for reading, brothers!
