Hey all, sorry it's been a little while since I've written one of these reviews! (senioritis has plagued my life recently).
Up for review this time is actually two sticks that I smoked within about 2 hrs of each other: The Indian Tabac Company Cameroon Legend Robusto and the Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Belicoso.
Props must be given to Zen Cigar Man for providing me with the ITC Cameroon Leged, thanks Bro!!!
So why two cigars this time Bull Moose? I'll tell you why, I smoked the ITC and decided that it would be a shame if that was my only Cammy stick for the week.
Construction (ITC): This is a wonderful looking stick. The wrapper had some light oils, very beautiful golden brown hue and only a few veins. The draw was pretty much spot on and the burn was fairly even and required no re-lights.
Flavor (ITC): This is the reason why it became a two cigar day. Stated simply, I did NOT enjoy the flavors of this cigar. The first word that comes to mind is harsh. My throat burned as I smoked this cigar and the flavors I did get did not seem to fit the normal cammeroon profile. In the beginning it was a good bit of wood, only a little earth. The sweetness didn't really kick in until the halfway point but I had already decided to ditch the cigar once it reached the band so it made no difference.
Overall: I'll keep this one simple, even though the ITC cameroon legend robusto is indeed cheap (well it was actually free for me this time) I would not buy another one when there are so many other tasty Cammy options out there. I respect Rocky Patel and I really enjoy his Vintage lines but apparently not his cammy products. 6/10
Now on to a stick which I much preferred, the Asthon Heritage Puro Sol Belicoso.
Appearance and Construction: This stick was a bit darker than the ITC and much more toothy which only the slightest sheen. The wrapper leaf was indeed beautiful to look at despite two water spots and there were absolutely no burn issues with this cigar. Although the burn line wasn't completely straight I was rewarded with copious amounts of thick white smoke.
Flavors: Well I guess I'm becoming a more experienced smoker because when I lit this bad boy up it reminded me exactly of another cigar: The AF Hemingway Best Seller! Personally I thought this was pretty cool because it was the first time I was able to identify a flavor profile of another cigar blindly. Actually this cigar was practically identical, in my opinion, to the AF Hemingway and therefore should give some brothers more flexibility if they'd like to smoke a Hemingway but can't find one or don't like the vitolas offered.
Right off the bat I was getting sweet spicy and earthy flavors. As I reached the second half it morphed into chocolate and leather with pepper rounding out the end of this fine smoke. You bet your asses I nubbed this stick!
Overall: This Ashton stick doesn't come cheap at ~$8-9 but I do believe it is well worth the coin if you're in the mood for a good Cameroon smoke. Though it's not my favorite I will have to rate it slightly above the Hemingway since I was a fan of the Belicoso vitola. Therefore I will reward this stick with an 8.6/10 Thanks for reading guys!
