Is it Nicaraguan
We are in the middle of two-a-days with our football team and smoke time is at a premium this week so I figure let me go to an old reliable and see what age has done for it.
This stick has a little over a year of age on it the heft of it is ginormous. The wrapper is oily and without blotch or blemish and nary a soft spot to be had. I run it under my nose and it emits raw tobacco and berries.
I try the cap removal method posted recently of simply spinning the head of the cigar and it worked great. The pre-light draw is full of tobacco and earth.
I spark the foot and we are off. OBTW, I am pairing it with Peet's Coffee (black)
Immediately, the smoke is billowing off this stick like a chimney in winter. The first few puffs reveal a musty, chewy oak and earth flavor. The finish is awesome and retrohale reveals a black cherry flavor that I am really liking.
Approaching the end of the first third of this stick and I am very impressed as to how the age has toned down what in the ROTT was in your face pepper, to a spicy, white pepper that pairs well with the oak and now hickory I am detecting.
- Dat gummit, the ash just fell!
I'll sum up the first third by say, if this is any indication of what is to come over the final 2/3 of this stick, I'll not smoke another Sumatra of this brand, for hands down, it is better than that and the Ligero of this brand.
This stick is really opening up now. Flavors have gone to a maple oak with a hint of honey. The smoke it dense yet buttery smooth. I am beginning to bond with this stick as now leather is becoming the predominant flavor. The density of the smoke is unbelievable. The burn line is razor sharp and the aroma is enchanting.
While this stick no where near packs the wallop of say a JDN, it is not a punk in this category. Had I not eaten pasta and chicken and asparagus before hand, I'd be reaching for a Cole or some sugar cubes.
The sun is setting and this stick is starting to shine. There seems to be a hint of passion fruit seeping in but still, as I am just past the half way point, the maple oak is still the most detectable.
Entering into the final third and all I can say is that if you've not tried this stick, you should for it is tremendous.
The final third reveals a taste of raisins and dates that help to balance the power that has intensified. What was white pepper is now almost Cayenne mixed with cloves. It is time to hide the women and children as it is officially a power bomb.
I've removed the bands in order to add them to my collection and I am going to pour myself another cup of coffee and enjoy the rest of this stick.
I'll be back with a final thought and picture shortly.
Final Thoughts:
Hats off to Glen Case for I call this one a winner. Start to finish a complex, flavor and towards then end, a power bomb worthy of a fiver!
