  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

A tribute to great Cuban cigars; this cigar is down right beautiful to look at. Its light brown wrapper from Ecuador is almost flawless with hardly any prominent veins. Great aroma of cedar on the pre light sniff.

Used a table light to light, and didn’t even have to puff on it to light. Combustion was superb and burned evenly from the start (a consistent trait of Ashton products). The draw was very easy, almost too easy to pull.

Flavors of wood and nuttiness on the initial attack. No Pepin spice at all, which is surprising for a mostly Nicaraguan smoke. Salt and pepper ash is flaky and falls of easily (in my lap!). Plumes of smoke pour out of this stick, and I love it. 2nd third is very nutty and transitions to cedar flavors. Not wowing me so far, and not bringing the complexity I thought this stick would have. In the last third the cigar the Pepin spice (black pepper) finally made an appearance but just slightly. At the nub a hint of cocoa was noticed.

All in all this smoke is just good and not anywhere near great. Probably won’t return to this one. Flavors just seem kind of dull and not “spot on” like many other Pepin cigars. This would otherwise be liked by many mild to medium strength smokers. Probably would be great in the morning with some coffee to start off the day.

Score: 89-90

Thanks for the review. I really enjoy the LADC EE and have found cocoa to be the predominant flavor in these.

I have some number 5's, and they're not a bad smoke for something medium bodied. They remind me slightly of the man o' war virtue. There's a creaminess in flavor profile that's similar to me. Where this stick really shines is in the lancero, though. You can only get them in a 10-pack, 5 san cristobals and 5 LADC EEs, but it's fantastic. I picked it up got about $5 a stick, and it was well worth it.

Thanks again for the review!

I agree that the lancero, and the No. 1 (corona gorda) are the two best vitolas in this line. I really enjoy these cigars when I want that Pepin flavor profile without the full blast of pepper spice.

Thanks for tip!
Also, the regular LaDC line new blend has recently released a lancero vitola as well. It seems to have more spice than the EE, with a broadleaf maduro wrapper. I'm also a big fan of the Cubao cigars if you find yourself liking a medium bodied cigar with the Pepin flavor profile. The Cubao seems to have a little more creamy sweetness to it.

I'll be releasing a review in the next couple days on the Cubao No. 5. I've got some aging since last year. They really shine with age.

Great review!!

This was one of the first cigars I smoked that had me thinking "wow, I can't believe I've missed this hobby in my life for so long."

Nice review, Thanks.

The Lanceros are the best of the line, but that hold true, for me, with almost all cigars.

Couldn't agree more. The Cubaos NEED to rest or they're just not any good to be honest. The creamy sweetness tastes fantastic once they've sat. Looking forward to the review!
