Details (from Top25cigar)
# Size: 5 x 50
# Shape: Robusto
# Wrapper: Ecuador
# Filler: D.R., Nic., Peru
# Binder: Dom. Rep.
# MSRP: $8.00 (I paid about $30.00 for a 5 pack)
Pre-Light
The cigar is simply flawless in appearance. No large veins, blemishes, splotches, soft spots, or anything that detracts from it.
The cap was big enough for me to actually clip without ruining it (unlike any boxed pressed cigar) and I did so. Pre-light draw was nice and tight
Lighting
Noting notable here. It lit relatively easily and evenly.
First Third of Cigar
Initials tastes I had trouble with. The smoke was relatively light / mild. I couldn't pick out one discernible taste, however, it wasn't unpleasant. A little further in I started to get a slight pepper taste, and eventually a slight spice kicked in.
I'll reiterate, as much as I tried to, I couldn't get this cigar to get harsh or "bite" my tongue at all. It was kind of dull at this point.
2nd Third
I started noticing a slightly metallic taste, and the pepper flavor made itself more noticeable. Also noted a bit of woodiness, and a bit of a 'twang' I couldn't explain really. I kinda liked it though.
At this point, I did feel a bit of a nicotine punch to my gut. For how mild this cigar tasted, it was relatively strong.
Last Third
Last third the tastes were a bit more grassy, but still relatively dull. I put it out at this point as I was bored and realized I wasn't going to get any more out of this.
Overall Burn
Burn was impeccable and construction perfect. Can't complain in this department.
Conclusion
While this wasn't a bad cigar, I was expecting something more from my first La Aurora. I guess that's what hype will do to you. If I hadn't bought a 5 pack, I wouldn't care to pay $6 to smoke this again.
