  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

La Aurora Preferido Platinum (Cameroon)

This little beauty has been resting in my humidor for a little over two years now. It was given to me by my wonderful girlfriend as a Christmas gift -- what better time to spark it up than in the blistering cold.

The La Aurora Preferidos are a work of art; I almost felt bad smoking it -- but smoke it I must!

The Platinum (Cameroon) has a rough, toothy wrapper with impeccable construction. The smell emanating from this stick was that of a barnyard with a touch of heaven.

The initial light...

The smoke is that of a sweet tobacco with hints of cedar and oak. A "woody note," I'd call it. It has a similar flavor to that of the Arturo Fuente Short Story, only more pronounced and sweet. I assume it's because of the cameroon wrapper; one that's becoming a fast favorite of mine.

Once the Platinum gets going it gets even more delightful. It still has that sweet cameroon flavor and "woody note," but it begins to get a touch of spice on the finish. It's not very strong, but it's there.

I can't recommend this cigar enough. It has:

  • Impeccable construction - It looks like God rolled it. The burn was razor sharp and never required a touch up. The ash held on for about an inch and a half.

  • Interesting and Delicious Flavors - While it wasn't the most complex stick, the flavors it did have were enticing enough for me to nub it. Sweet tobacco, cedar flavors, oak flavors, and just a hint of spice.

You owe it to yourself to try this cigar.

I got my first one of these from my girlfriend years ago, and they hold a special place in my heart, both the girl who I married and the cigar.

Thank you, gentlemen.

ctaylor - I'd have to agree: La Aurora doesn't get enough attention. Their full line of cigars are great; from their regular line, to the 1495s, to the Preferidos, to the 100 Anos.

scottyducati - I've also smoked the full line of the Preferidos and the Platinum (Cameroon) are the best. The Reds (Maduro) are also quite delicious.

To you others that haven't tried this stick yet -- do it. They're a little expensive. I think they retail around $14, but are worth every penny.

Thanks for the review. I loved the 100 Anos, but that is the only La Aurora I've had. The price has allways kept me at bay. I look at their perfectos every single time I'm at the b&m, but I just can't seem to drop that much coin on one. But my God they are gorgeous. I'd say the most beautiful tubes I've ever seen.

I agree on all counts! As far as price, you can get the Preferidos Cameroon in plenty of cheaper sizes besides the big Tubo (though they are the best looking Tubes in the buisness!). The Robusto, in particular, can be had for around $6 when on sale--and they are VERY good.

I'd actually like to get more of the Cameroon Lanceros. The one I had seemed quite a bit more spicy than the other sizes I've had--could have just been that one stick I suppose. Either way, I want more, 'cuz it was awesome!
