My first review, so cut me some slack
La Flor Dominicana 700 - 60X6.5
Temp: 24c
Wind: 0
Seating: Camping chair
Headgear: My favourite smoking hat.
Drinking: Water
Mood: Stressed and tired.
Prelight
Construction is beautiful. Dark oily wrapper. Slightly silky to touch.
Smells of strong tobacco, wood and earth.
Head cuts cleanly, but with a bit of effort, given the massive ring gauge.
Cold draw is reminiscent of a fruit I used to eat in Pakistan many years ago, but cant name.
Light
Takes a long time to light this beast as the tobacco is quite heavily packed. Once lit, it gives off a cedar and earth smell.
1/3
Easy flavour in the first few puffs with ample thick, white smoke, but the flavour and intensity picks up to its full powerhouse quickly.
Getting a strong chocolate and bean flavour and cedar on the exhale. Too strong for passing through the nasal passage.
2/3
Dark chocolate. Peppery and spicy.
Burn line was thin and consistent. There was a small issue with the burn as it started to canoe a bit, but nothing a quick touch-up can't handle.
The cigar was bandoned at 50%
Smoking time 1hr (@ 50%)
Conclusion
This stick kicked my ass. Got a heavy headache (I started smoking with a tiny feeling in my head around the temples, so it wasn't a good idea to smoke this stogie), serious nauseous. I ended up head in the toilet bowl for 10 minutes. :barf:
Thought a long smoke will relax me from the horrible day I had and the DL was asking to be smoked. Had I read the reviews about this beast, I wouldnt have lit up, instead opting for a smaller stick, such as the Bolivar Coronas Jr, one of my all-time favourites.
I have been recommended to try the Chisel next time, so Im adding that and the Joyo de Nicaragua Antano Magnum 660 to my order next time I get something from the US of A.
Final thoughts
Although this is a beautiful cigar, it must be handled with the respect it deserves. Only smoke this one if you are relaxed, feeling great and have a couple of hours to kill or it might kill you like it nearly did to me. I have learned my lesson and would only attempt that cigar again when the conditions were perfect.
Hats off to you LFD, youve made a killer of a cigar! :tiphat:
