  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

My first review, so cut me some slack

La Flor Dominicana 700 - 60X6.5

Temp: 24c
Wind: 0
Seating: Camping chair
Headgear: My favourite smoking hat.
Drinking: Water
Mood: Stressed and tired.

Prelight
Construction is beautiful. Dark oily wrapper. Slightly silky to touch.
Smells of strong tobacco, wood and earth.
Head cuts cleanly, but with a bit of effort, given the massive ring gauge.
Cold draw is reminiscent of a fruit I used to eat in Pakistan many years ago, but can’t name.

Light
Takes a long time to light this beast as the tobacco is quite heavily packed. Once lit, it gives off a cedar and earth smell.

1/3
Easy flavour in the first few puffs with ample thick, white smoke, but the flavour and intensity picks up to its full powerhouse quickly.
Getting a strong chocolate and bean flavour and cedar on the exhale. Too strong for passing through the nasal passage.

2/3
Dark chocolate. Peppery and spicy.

Burn line was thin and consistent. There was a small issue with the burn as it started to canoe a bit, but nothing a quick touch-up can't handle.

The cigar was bandoned at 50%
Smoking time 1hr (@ 50%)

Conclusion
This stick kicked my ass. Got a heavy headache (I started smoking with a tiny feeling in my head around the temples, so it wasn't a good idea to smoke this stogie), serious nauseous. I ended up head in the toilet bowl for 10 minutes. :barf:

Thought a long smoke will relax me from the horrible day I had and the DL was asking to be smoked. Had I read the reviews about this beast, I wouldn’t have lit up, instead opting for a smaller stick, such as the Bolivar Coronas Jr, one of my all-time favourites.

I have been recommended to try the Chisel next time, so I’m adding that and the Joyo de Nicaragua Antano Magnum 660 to my order next time I get something from the US of A.

Final thoughts
Although this is a beautiful cigar, it must be handled with the respect it deserves. Only smoke this one if you are relaxed, feeling great and have a couple of hours to kill…or it might kill you like it nearly did to me. I have learned my lesson and would only attempt that cigar again when the conditions were perfect.
Hats off to you LFD, you’ve made a killer of a cigar! :tiphat:

Ouch! Thanks for the review! Sugar always seems to help me out when it hits me hard.
I heard that the sugar helps break down the nicotine. That's why some people drink a fruit punch or juice with a heavy stogie such as the LFD DL.

Yuck! That sucks dude, I'm sorry your experience was so rough. It is a nice looking cigar, though.

And I'll echo peoples' sentiments on the sugar. If I get a bit nic-sick, I just down a glass of juice, or CocaCola, or whatever. Sugar helps IMMENSELY.

I've even been recommended in the past to just eat a tablespoon of white sugar.

That being said, going into it with a headache probably didn't help you any. I really find that if I am not feeling too great (that is, I'm sick, not that I'm "down" or whatever), a cigar is just not the best idea. Particularly if it's anything involving a headache or nausea. The cigar will just agitate that.

Wow...that's really to bad brother. In my opinion the DL Maduros are the best litto stick but yes you need to be a seasoned smoker of this cigars profile. It will kick your ass if your not used to it. However after a good dinner it can be a very tastefull and reaxing cigar. Sorry it made you ill but hopefully the chisel will suit you better. You should know it is the same cigar only smaller...you will get the same profile from it.

Thanks for the review Hasan guess you could've asked Jim for a quick over view before lighting up but I can see why you decided to run with it Litto definitely makes some juicy sticks and his Maduro leaf is absolutely delish!
