  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Wanted to start this review with a little background regarding my experience with LGC cigars. After smoking random mild cigars my buddies picked up for me, I never really got "in" to cigars until a buddy recommended an LGC Serie R a few years back. That was the first full bodied cigar I had smoked and was more along the lines of what I was looking for in a smoke. I smoked through a couple boxes prior to joining botl.org. Once here my eyes were opened to a lot more cigars in the full body range thanks to the recommendations of the fine members here.

Today I'll be reviewing the new La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Retro Especiale. A firmly packed cigar with minimal veins. The cigar features a hybrid Connecticut seed grown in Honduras, a double binder of Nicaraguan and Mexican tobaccos and a Nicarauguan and Dominican filler. Prelight draw is a light spice and not picking up too much other than that.

A mildish start to this cigar, most of the flavor is picked via retrohale. Mostly getting an oaky taste to it with a hint of pepper. Required a couple small touchups but the draw has been pretty good so far.

Strength and flavor has picked up a bit as I get in to the second third. Nothing overly complex though. A nice spice to it, picking up a hint of cedar just past the halfway point. Still burning and drawing well.

Final third was more of the same, medium body, medium strength. Almost getting a little harsh toward the finish and started to run on one side, may just from being a little green with it being a newer cigar. I think this cigar is a compliment to the Artesano line. Like to try this one again in a few months and see how it comes along.

I am smoking one right now. Too funny that you posted this right as I lit it up. I am about to the halfway point and I agree, medium body and medium flavor. Slight spice but really earthy. Decent cigar but nothing that jumps out at you. Should do well with some age.
