This cigar was given to me by a friend, and frankly I hadn’t heard of it before. I went in blind not knowing anything about it, and after the fact found out it was one of Peter Johnson's cigars.
Just by looking at it and admiring the beautiful construction and the nice thick flawless wrapper, I had a hunch I would like it. It seemed to be well aged and I thought it had been resting for awhile.
I was wrong.  It is one of his latest releases and it features a thick sun grown Connecticut wrapper grown in the USA along with Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos.
On to the smoke…
Pre-light
This cigar had a nice dry and woody pre light flavor that was very pleasant with a hint of pepper.
First Third
It started off quite balanced was earthy and had a dry grassy hay-like finish with a little pepper. Not too interesting, but really quite pleasant.
Second Third
After the first third was in the books, this cigar started to get my attention. Chocolate and almond started to shine through along with some sweet notes that definitely reminded me of honey.
Last Third
In the transition to the last third I started to notice some woody and rich tobacco flavors as well as come more almond and an earthy spiciness that I couldn’t put my finger on. It was pretty interesting.
Closing
It was a very well made cigar with a perfect burn. It was loosely packed which led me to believe it was aged awhile after it was rolled. Even though it was the most complex cigar I have had, I would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t tried one before. That being said I would prefer the La Aroma de Cuba Edition Especial for roughly the same price.
I would say it was 7.5 out of 10 and recommend it to those who like a medium bodied cigar similar to some of the La Aurora offerings I have had.
