  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I felt like doing something different today so I dug into the neglected NC coolidor for a cigar I hadn't had in a while. I came up with this Drew Estate La Vieja Habana Leather Patch. This one is the size they call Habanos 54, 5" x 54 RG. I had gotten a box of these on sale from CI a few years ago and really liked them at the time. Now they've been sitting for about 3+ years and it's time to revisit them.
The cigar smelled nice coming out of the begining-to-yellow cello and it was very attractive. It seems well constructed if a bit light. The only drawback to it's appearance is that some of the bunched Nicaraguan filler telegraphs through the Cameroom wrapper in an occasional 'rib'. It lit nicely and the draw was exceptionally light, almost too light. Probably due to the light weight (read: loose bunch) I had noticed earlier. The draw was so loose I had to be careful not to overheat the cigar, which is not necessarily a bad thing since it forced me to sip it. Flavorwise it is pretty much as advertised. Medium. Despite the name there is nothing Habanos about it. The Flavor is nothing to jump up and down about but is indeed pleasant. Kind of woody and well...leathery... with some herbal notes akin to hay late in the exhalation through my nose. My only criticism of the flavor is a slightly bitter aftertaste that kind of layed on my tongue. I wouldn't buy them again but I will enjoy one of these now and then as long as the box lasts (which at this rate will be quite a long while!).

There you have it. My first review in ages and more words than I've typed in this forum in quite a while.

Very nice! I bought a 5er of the LVH smokes a while back and I'm not a fan either. I wouldn't buy them again either, but I'm letting them sit, so I'll see how they smoke with some age on them :)
