I'm a fan of the mechanics behind a punch cutter. The problem is the hole is small so the draw is a bit tougher. However it cuts effortlessly and doesn't snip off to much. Removes a perfect hole from the cap every time without slicing into the filler.

Typically a punch cutter is around 20 RG? I was looking for one around 32-36 RG which would be ideal for Robusto's, Toro's, etc.

Anyone know of any in existence?

Just punch 3 over lapping holes would look like this

I still don't see why you would punch such a large ring gauge smoke, but I know people do. Seems to me the smaller apature would concentrate the smoke causing a tar buildup. I'm all for punching smaller sticks, but once you spend the $28 for a Palio you'll realize what a guillotine cutter is really supposed to do, and then realize you wish you hadn't spent the money on the pounch you don't use anymore.

funny this thread came up. I won a nub pack off of a Twitter contest with a new nub punch. It's either 40 or 42rg. Makes an AWESOME punch on a robusto. pics to come.

I've done that before. :)

I do use my Colibri cutter. I know they don't get as talked about as Xikar but the thing is damn sharp and doesn't chip or dull.

Punch cutters deliver a much cleaner cut without cutting the filler. Usually when I cut with a guillotine it snips a bit of the filler and causes some loose tobacco which gets in my mouth and whatnot.

Punch cutters are just easy and effortless, but they usually come in very small ring gauges.

Well, I've personally only seen one basic size of punch cut. I actually prefer a punch for a large rg cigar, because they often have to loose a draw, and the punch helps compensate for that.

What I do if the cigar needs a bit bigger opening is to give it what I call a "shave." I have a scissors cigar cutter (the Swiss Army Knife kind). I use that to shave off the exact amount of the outer cap leaf that I'd like to use for the draw ... I love the scissors because you can be very precise.

Lately, I've been using a "V" cutter a lot too, and I like it quite a bit.

Dprice--I've actually done that quite a few times myself, before I got my scissors. Last night I burned an LFD Chisel and did the punch on either side of the chisel method ... very cool!
