Wrapper is a thick, rustic dark broadleaf with sparkling mineral crystals showing here and there. I get cocoa and light barnyard scents from the unlit cigar.
On lighting I get light pepper - not as much as I tend to anticipate from a cigar out of the My Father factory. First third settles into espresso, cocoa, mild pepper and an intriguing lemon flavor. The lemon note strikes me at times slightly sour and tangy and at other times sweeter and more confectionery.
The cigar produces a striking amount of thick fragrant smoke.
I get a passing hint of sweetness almost like... brown sugar? Then lemon and cocoa. First third continues to be rather mild and dessert-like. A lemon cookie dusted in cocoa and dipped in espresso. Or a lemon merengue with a cup of coffee. There's something almost confectionery about it.
I tap off the ash at better than an inch and a half lest I find myself dressed in it.
As the second third opens the lemon fades leaving cocoa and coffee. Cigar becomes increasingly creamy and tangy. I get a passing nuttiness. Almonds maybe. Burn line wavers but fixes itself before I intervene.
Mid second third is creamy cafe mocha with a bit of tangyness. Chocolate increases and I get the impression of eating a chocolate covered espresso bean. The amazing thing about this cigar is how smooth and creamy it is.
Hints of bitter dark chocolate.
Entering the final third I'm getting rich espresso like the aroma of freshly ground beans. Strength and body increases but cigar remains cool and rounded without even the slightest hint of harshness or acridness.
Burn wavered here and required a touch up.
Body swells to a thick medium-full as final third progresses and I get the sensation of a cup of strong dark roast with its nutty chocolate flavors and silky mouth feel. There is an incredibly long finish and I'm savoring the taste of chocolate and coffee on my teeth and lips. I finally nub the cigar with scorched fingers and senses exhausted.
So far this is my pick for best cigar of 2016
