  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Las Mareas first taste (for me)

So I have been salivating at the thought of finally trying the Las Mareas as everything I have ever fired up from CH has left me wanting more. I picked up 3 back in mid December and felt like they have had enough time to acclimate so I gave it a go last night.

Love the simple and elegant foot band they implore (I know its temporary).

Fired it up and immediately it kicked in with a miriad of flavors and good volume of smoke. I can't usually pinpoint all the flavors like others can in reviews so I won't even try, but I know it had me do a short "oh my" on about the third puff and I was excited for the next hour or so I had with it.

The "oh my" moments continued for about an inch into it, then I kind of lost the flavors. Didn't get harsh or anything bad but it kind of muted down. I felt like I was searching for the flavors through the majority of the rest of the stick. Every now and then I would get a burst of them. I tried everything to bring them back. Slowing down, speeding up, retrohale more, retrohale less.

Another thing I noticed was a twinge of sour to it. Not in a bad way per se and it was kind of that sour that accompanies leather. It wasn't off putting or anything and gave me the feeling that it could just be that it needs more rest.

All in all it was a good smoke but fell a little short (for me) of Crowned Heads usual expectations. I will revisit it (and revise this) when I come back to the other two after a couple months of resting.

Please don't take any of this review as a negative to the Las Mareas though. I will still gladly pick up a couple any time I am in the B&M. Crowned Heads just has a very high bar to keep hitting that the Tennessee Waltz and La Imperioso has set for me.

Keep up the good work Jon Huber.

Everyone's got different tastes and are entitled to an opinion brother! Personally, I actually don't like TW's but love LI's. I'm sure John's ok with that!
