After getting my tax return back, I found a list of cigars I had been wanting to try, but never actually got around to buying any of. So I picked up a sampler of these Declaration cigars after reading a couple reviews, and I was not disappointed. The sampler included 2 each of the Iniquity (5.5x50), the Reason (6x58), and the Pursuit (5.25x52). Enjoy!
From the Jameson website:
Size: 5.25"x52 torpedo
Blend: Dominican puro, Habano '98 wrapper, Criollo '98 binder and filler
Appearance: This is a great-looking cigar. Awesome black, red, and silver foil band. Wrapper is dark brown with plenty of oily sheen to it. Just a couple veins visible but they can't really be felt. Construction looks great, light but solid with no soft spots, the cap is a tad sloppy but that's coming off anyway. Smells faintly of dark chocolate.
1st Third: Lit easily despite a slightly tight draw. Right off the bat, I'm getting loads of sweet espresso and leather with tons of smoke. The tightness requires a long slow draw to really get going. After 10-15 puffs, the stick has transitioned to rich meaty, leathery flavors.
2nd Third: The richness has subsided a bit, and added in a sweet black cherry-esque taste. The ash is holding very strong, white and solid with a minimal flaky-ness. It finally dropped at almost 2.5". Construction is great, burn is spot-on. At the 1/2, I'm starting pick up a cedar note, with some hints of black coffee on the finish, which is long and savory. Draw finally started to loosen up.
Final Third: At this point, its all savory leather and cedar. Overall a medium strength cigar, but definitely full-flavored. Burn started to get a little finicky, but was never a problem. The stogie never got hot, but in the last 1", flavors became bitter and muddled.
Final Thoughts: A great combination of flavors. It's a fairly different flavor profile from what I usually smoke, but a good change of pace. I'm really looking forward to the other sizes I have on hand. For $6.25/each, this is definitely a great value. Jameson Cigar Co. also makes different blends of coffee to pair with their smokes, and I'm thinking of picking some up to try the two together.
Smoking Time: 1:20
Score: 89 (B+)
Thanks for reading guys! Happy early Valentine's Day! (hope none of you forgot :grin
