I've had one thing on my mind all day today...
Made for a very long day at work :hanghead:. But after I finally got home and put my son down for his nap, I was able to get out on the deck and put an end to the craving. Most of you are familiar with the LP line, but if you're not they freakin' rock! The T52 features the same blend as the #9 (Brazilian binder, Dominican/Nicaraguan filler), but instead of the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper it features a Stalk-cut Habano wrapper. And what a wrapper it is...
Chocolaty in color and oozing with oils, it gives off a distinct cedar/spicy/chocolate aroma that I absolutely love. The construction on this stick is superb.
Cap cut like butter and the draw is on the tighter side, but I think it'll be fine. The cold draw gives me a rich tobacco flavor and coats my lips with oil which, when licked off has an earthy tobacco kind of flavor.
Put flame to it and away we go...well sort of :squinteye. The draw is tighter than I'd anticipated and with the combination of an extremely oily wrapper I'm really having to work to keep this cigar going. There was a peppery burst at first, but other than that I'm not getting much as the smoke production is hit or miss.
Now we're rockin'...as the cigar works it's way toward the widest point (oh this is about a 4 x 60 cigar by the way) the smoke output takes off and it's now a smoke stack! Thick, oily smoke clouds coat my palate and carry the flavor of rich tobacco punctuated with cedar, chocolate, and spice. Mmm...
Definitely a full bodied cigar and it's reminding me of that fact! Even though I made sure to eat a big lunch before I came out to smoke, I've started getting a little uneasy in the stomach. Nothing new for me, the T52s usually do it to me and I just keep on a puffing...it passes in a bit. The ash is a dirty gray color and has a crumbly appearance to it, but is holding strong.
It's a gorgeous day out and I'm relaxing to the musical stylings of one of my favorite bands...Old Crow Medicine Show. The cigar is chuggin' along, sun is shining and everything is awesome!
Flavors are still the cedar/chocolate/spice mixture and I've picked up a nuttiness here and there. Then bam...
All of a sudden part of the cap came loose. I tried to stick it down with saliva, but it kept popping up again so I unwound it a bit, tore it off and didn't have a problem with it the rest of the smoke.
Got a little hot towards the end and I think it kind of muddled the flavors some, but if you are patient and go slow you will reap the rewards.
Over all this is one enjoyable smoke and well worth the $10-12 you're going to pay for them, but I still contend that the Double Corona is the best in the T52 line. I've seen the new 6 x 60 T52 they're coming out with and I'm sure that will be on par with the DC, but here's the thing...I don't often have the time to smoke something that massive. I'd be excited to see something along the lines of a Petite Corona size...like a 4.5 x 46 or something like that (are you listening JD :thumbsup
. Yes, I could smoke a T52 Robusto and be happy, but honestly I've found them to be lacking a little...not saying a PC would be any better, but one could hope right?
