Unrepentant Hoarder
This is from the cigar.com charity release. I think Steve Saka said these had about 18mo age on them. The UF-13 Unico Serie coming this march will be much younger, so I'm itching to check that out and compare. Those are expected to be even stronger than what follows below.
I paired this with a (edit: two) double Captain Morgan & coke zero, my go-to drink for cigar smoking.
Pre-light cold draw: deep, wet earth with a hint of raisin
First inch: PEPPER, pepper and more pepper! Undertones of earth, leather, vanilla and molasses struggle to get your attention. Ever seen a crackhead take that first hit and get all wild-eyed? You do that too when the UF-13 pepper blast hits you. There was a big void between the leaves of the filler, but it self-corrected in the first inch.
First third: after that first inch, the pepper backs off a bit and you can really get into the molasses-y sweetness that balances things out very well. Bourbon vanilla beans, maybe a whiff of peat, and a touch of cedar follow. Every draw was "OMFG"
Second third: Molasses backs off into a sweet syrup, but less pronounced. Earth, leather and a bit of pepper get your attention. The OMFG flavor of the first third is gone, but this is still better than any other NC I've ever smoked. I corrected one canoe at this point. Burn was laser-precise the whole time aside from this.
Final third: Take the chocolatey sweetness out of a LP9 and amp up the strength massively. There you are. Not as strong as the first inch by any means. Going to nub the shit outta this. Some sweetness creeps back, but maybe with help from my drink. Captain Morgan is a good friend to cigars!
Y'all are gonna hate me for this: I smoked a UF-13 and a MF-13 (supposedly the same, but both pre-releases so I don't really know for fact) last summer that I won in an auction to help out a fellow BOTL. Both were religious experiences, so I bought a 25pk bundle of these UF-13s. All four I've smoked so far have been exactly as described above, even ROTT. I can't think of the last stick I've had with this consistency!
Final smoking time: 1h 50m. Poured smoke like a coal furnace the whole time! It was hard to breathe in my garage!
