  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I was cruising around a garage sale today an picked up a used Living Air XL-15 Air Purifier for $2.00. I figured for two bucks....so what if it doesn't work. The research on the net claims miracles for it. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? Just looking to see if there's any BOTLs that may have used it or are currently using it.

The list for these are $300-600 . I don't think I'd ever pay that much for them... But then again...$2.00.

I'll post how it works after I give it a try.

It was pretty dirty, so I took that bad boy outside, cleaned it, then blew compressed air, and gave it a good wipe down.

I could be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time, but I believe that is what Jere (kockroach) just recently purchased for his smoking room.

Yep...Once I searched for XL-15 his post for one he was selling. So I shot him a PM. The more I searched this is a ozone generator.

There's plenty of controversy over its effectiveness for multiple claims both Living Air and Alpine Air (its competitor as best I can tell). They do make some pretty lofty claims about its capabilities. There is even a few law suits about faulty claims on advertising. I've seen these things in cigar shops all over the country...so I'm thinking it has got to work at least somewhat. I think that the cigar shops couldn't all be using a product that doesn't work.

One thing that is fairly constant is that it is good for removing tobacco smoke. Since this is the primary function I was looking for...I'm hoping it will work for me.

Since I smoked a cigar in my room last night (until around midnight) I'll have a good feel for how well it works. This morning the room still had somewhat of a cigar smell, but not "smokey". I'm going to run some errands, so I'm going to crank it up while I'm out.

All right, here's what I think about it from the first day.

When I returned from running errands, etc. the room the cigar smell seemed to be gone. But then again, I had just come home from smoking a cigar. So maybe I wouldn't necessarily notice a slight smell. What I did smell was kinda of a chlorine smell....kinda like an enclosed pool smell. I've read about this, but now I know what it smells like. It wasn't extreme, but it was quite noticeable.

Now 30 hours later, I don't smell cigar smoke or tobacco smell. So, for $2 I'm pretty happy with the results.

I'm getting ready to smoke again. More to follow....

I think I have one of those sitting in storage. My wife prior to us getting married paid $300 or $400.00 for one. If its the same it looks like a large wooden shoe box.I remember it that it was heavey for it size which suprised me somewhat. She used it in her home office.

Just cruising through some old threads. Yes. Thus thing actually works. I smoke 4-6 cigars in my living room per week. I turn the unit on high when I go to bed. By morning, there's still a little smell in the room. But by the time I get home the the same day, it's not noticeable. I do augment this with a hunter air purifier. I also burn some candles on the weekend as well as open windows to provide fresh air. Overall I think it works. Several visitors can't believe I smoke in my house.
