Long Term Storage Temps

If this has been addressed previously, I appologize :dunno:

I've set up my first coolidor (first of several, I have a feeling) and I have a few questions. I've installed the digital hygrometer and beads, stabilized it and loaded it up (did I really get that many cigars in a 1 1/2 weeks? :yes: :blush: ).

Due to lack of storage area in the upstairs, I have put the 'dor in the basement (OK, OK, its so the wife doesn't see just how many cigars I actually have! :wifey Anyhow, it is a pretty stable 60* down there. Assuming that any cigars I plan on smoking are brought up into general population and placed in my desktop 'dor at least a few days before I torch them, is there a problem with this storage temp? :scratchhe

Not at all. MRN actually stores his cigars in the 50s...although, those are his "To be aged for decades" smokes.

Before I got my cabinet and even now that I have it my smokes have been in the basement as well. It is generally 62 to 70 degreees down there and they are smoking great.

I don't think you can go too low with temps unless you get near freezing, it just makes it more difficult to hold the RH. Anything above 50 or so and you should be good to go. :thumbsup:

Lower temps are better for longterm storage. I can only get my cooler down into the lower 60's during the winter.

Yea my house is NEVER above 70 and often times it is close to 60... and my cooler maintains just fine.....

We are gone all day so no heat so it gets damn cold sometimes..

Fluctuations are what is really bad for a smoke. Try and keep the temp swings minimal if possible, even if that means lower/higher than you would really prefer.Icepacks & handwarmers really do a good job if you're diligent.

Lower temps are definately better for long ter aging and storage. It will definately keep your cigars in good condition so when you want them they will be A-1.
