So last Wednesday I lit up my first smoke in at least three months... It was cool outside, the kids were playing, and I had the day off, so I decided to open my box -- which has been perfectly maintained despite my unintentional-cigar-hiatus -- and chose this beauty. I was never a huge fan of Macanudo because they generally lacked fullness, which I like.
But the maduros are supposedly fuller, more complex, and smokier. The wrapper was a nice deep chocolate... Not as oily as I like to see in a maduro wrapper, but still moist enough. I got a clean cut with my Palio, and a really nice even light-up.
It burned evenly, creating a consistent white/gray ash... It never got too hot, and burned pretty smoothly throughout the 45 minutes or so that I like to enjoy a smoke.
The flavor was a warm, smoky tobacco, with a really likable hint of cedar that may have been an artifact of my box. Slightly chocolaty on the finish. As I sipped on the cig I got full plumes of white smoke.
The experience made me YEARN for another smoke soon, and hopefully the opportunity will present itself. I take so much care weekly checking on my two boxes, filled with probably more than 100 cigars of all varieties (some thanks to my own hunting and some thanks to the generosity of my brothers here...) Every week when I check on my box I stop and try to think when I'll be able to smoke again... Maybe this weekend.
Thanks for reading!
