  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Back when WI allowed smoking in bars I used to run an annual HERF in Madison - the "Southern WI Eats and Tobacco Society" aka SWEATS. We'd meet at a bar for drinks and a cigar in the afternoon, go to a restaurant for dinner and then back to a bar for post-dinner cigar and merriment. We did it for 5 or 6 years and usually had 15 to 20 guys attend.

If anyone in Madison is interested in getting a group of BOTLers together some evening for dinner and then a cigar afterwards at my place (I have a decent sized smoking room) then I can try to organize a mini-HERF.

Other alternatives are getting together at the Tasting Room or the Maduro Cigar Bar, which allow smoking - the Tasting Room have a small lounge and bar area - but it might work. We could even try to reserve something after close some Saturday if we got enough guys. The Maduro is bigger but it can get quite loud since they have a DJ.

Depends on when you organize it. If it falls on a weekend I'm back home, I'd definitely be in.

I'd say throw some possible dates out, Madison actually isn't a horrible drive for me. It would most likely just come down to timing.

Count me in for a group thing (I've been remiss in PM'ing you since I got back from Africa!!). Indeed, throw a date out there! This weekend, though, I'm driving my snowbird mother-in-law's car down to Florida (which is actually always fun for me, as I get to visit Burns Tobacconist in Chattanooga and Rocky Patel's Burn lounge in Naples-- not to mention Marcus Daniels' shop). But after that, I'm pretty open.

Depending on the date I may be able to make it. It just depends on what Mrs. Rupe has planned for the weekend.

I live about 1/2 north of Lacrosse so Madison is about a 2-1/2 hour drive for me

Well, we're close and I'm available most weekends. So I'm good to go. Just need to work on scheduling with the out of towners.

I would also have a buddy or two if ok. Would definitely want my buddy who introduced me to gars to come. He's not an official BOTL here... yet!

He's in Monona... like literally 1 minute away from TTR. He and I just made plans this afternoon to grab a stick there this Saturday afternoon.

If you haven't any plans feel free to join us.

I haven't really given it too much thought about dates, location, etc. (i.e. are people interested in dinner & cigar or just a cigar)? A lot depends on how many guys can get attend. In the past I've been able to get cigar companies to donate cigars, etc.

I created a group that everyone interested can join - look for "SWEATS (So. WI Eats & Tobacco Society)" in the Groups section

I would say a dinner would definitely be in order. If we got guys coming in from all over, they're going to need to eat. But with TTR's early close time, especially on weekends, it'd be more of a late lunch, should we end up at TTR that is. I think the first order of business should be just establishing a soft date. If it turns out the date doesn't jive for most, we try again. Once we have a hard date, we can then figure out food and our final destination. As far as a body count, I can minimally have 2-3 others with me. Blue, I would say just lob a date out there and sort of go from there.

I'll look for setting something formal up after Christmas - I can do some research and see if I find what is available is Madison - it's been a few years since I organized one of these (and it was easy then because you could smoke in bars). I might be able to get a cigar company to chip in a few boxes like I have in the past.

In the meantime if some local Madison guys want to get together for mini-herf - we can set something up between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I'm going to start posting future items on the SWEATS group - please join if you haven't yet. Only 2 members so far and there 10 users who replied to this thread.

Thanks
