  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This 5×42 cigar features a dark brown wrapper with small veins, tight invisible seams, a very firm oily slightly toothy wrapper and a sweet soapy aroma. It also has a closed foot and pigtail cap. First light reveals a perfect draw with copious amounts of thick chewy smoke, medium-full body flavors of a sweet deep earth with a citrus zing and pepper on the finish. The first third has very unique flavors of a salty meat, a deep earth and a long finish of black and cayenne pepper with an oily sweetness left on the lips. Body is almost full with rich thick smoke and everything is butter smooth. 15 minutes in the heat REALLY builds! It’s exactly like eating very hot chicken wings and smearing the sauce all over your lips. it builds, reaching a peak about 20 seconds after the draw. 30 minutes in the draw flavors shift to a deep oilypeppery earth, and the finish changes dropping much of the spicy heat for a big black pepper zing that washes over the tongue. The burn and draw are perfect and the ash help on solid to the 1/2 way point. 45 minutes in I not that this a dyed cigar, and it’s getting on my fingers, lips and shirt. Ending at 1 hour the last third showed no further changes. http://cigarobsession.com/2011/08/08/man-o-war-puro-authentico-corona-cigar-review/

I never would have figured these had a dyed wrapper. I'll have to investigate the next time I smoke one. I've smoked about four and have not had any issues with the cigar staining. :dunno:

Dyed maduros is not uncommon unfortunately. Rocky Patels I think really started the trend, or at least got it noticed, with coal black wrappers and frequent complaints of stains. Also, this was in about 95% humidity, certainly under better conditions dye should not be an issue. BUT there are plenty of outdoor FL smokers!

Thanks for the review.

I was at the Cigars International Super Store talking stogies with a regular there. We got on the topic of Dirty Rats, and he said if I'm a fan of those, I should definitely try the Puro Authenticos. I'm glad I did. They're inexpensive and loaded with spice and pepper. I've gone through about 20 of the Man O' War Puro Authenticos and will be purchasing more.

Thanks for the review. I have some of these coming in a trade, love the Ruination!

As to the wrapper issue--a LOT of wrapprs will naturally leach-out color. The Tat Verocu wrappers come to mind right away, my lips and fingers are usually a little brown afterwards. So that's not proof one way or another of "color enhancement," which would include dying and rolling the cigars using water like Rocky Patel often does (and is annoying).

I think moisture is the key factor in getting color FROM the cigar onto you, regardless of whether it's natural color or "enhanced." It's crazy humid here all the time, and I notice it so much more now than I ever used to in the States. That's just anictodal, I realize.
