  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Pre-light thoughts: This is my first Man o' War cigar, and my second blend by A.J. Fernandez (who crafted the Diesel Unholy Cocktail which I also loved).

I'm looking forward to it, though I am a little apprehensive due to it being a Connecticut wrapper which I haven't really enjoyed in the past. Though, admittedly, I have almost smoked 3 or 4 Connecticuts, and while I didn't like any of them very much, I'll try to smoke this with an open mind.

The cigar has a very faint aroma of sweet tobacco, and that's about all I'm getting from it in terms of smell.

The cap comes off smoothly, and a pre-light draw gives a very sweet taste of tobacco and cedar. It almost tastes the way the inside of a brand new humidor smells.

First third: The cigar lit well (aside from the problems I had with the breeze picking up every time I lit the match...damnit I need a lighter!!).

And wow, there's a lot of flavour right off the bat. A smooth spiciness that just ever-so-lightly tingles the back of the throat, and some very pleasant tobacco flavour.

The cigar is burning beautifully so far. The burn is not razor-sharp, but it's straight enough that there are no issues. No tunneling or dipping.

Second third: This cigar is continuing to surprise me with how much flavour there is. The spice has died down a bit and been replaced with an actual flavour of a kind of creamy vanilla. I've experienced many cigars in which the texture of the smoke is "creamy", but never an actual flavour of cream.

It's very subtle, but it's delicious. The smoke is rich, thick and creamy on the palate.

Also a sidenote - the ash held on for over 2 inches! I got a few pictures I'll post when I can.

Final third: The sweetness has ramped all the way up for this final third. It's almost like candy.

The tobacco flavour mingles with the spice which has come back a tiny bit, and the creaminess intertwines with both of them to create a really beautiful flavour.

Final thoughts: This cigar blew my mind. Like I said at the beginning, I have yet to be wow'd by a Connecticut cigar...but this thing knocked my socks off.

The flavours are mellow and delicious. The final inch and a half was like a candy bar.

I strongly recommend this to absolutely EVERYONE. Even if you are not a fan of Connecticut wrapper, please just give this a try.

Couldn't agree with your more, sir. I believe I'm sitting on 20 of these things right now...they're that good! They are some creamalitious goodness. Dailycigardeal just had an absurd deal on toros a few days back. $12.95 for 5...so grab 10 for $25.50 and free shipping. MasterShake grabbed 15 and I got in on 5 more for myself. Cannot go wrong.

edit: I also have some chruchill and torpedo vitolas. One of the few Churchills I am extremely excited to smoke.

and thanks for the great review!

Goddamnit :(

I want some so bad. If only I'd known about that deal...

I havent had the Toro yet, though I have 2-3 resting. This makes me want to smoke one. I have had a few of this brand in the lonsdale, robusto and the petite figurado.
I love the lonsdael like the Figurado. I think that the robusto is good, but a little bit out of balance.

Nice review, Megladon... Definitely going to have to pick some of these up!

Matches in the wind huh... No Lighter huh?

PM me your address, I'll find one of my Ronson Jetlite's, purge it, juice it up with Vector and ship it off to you... Everyone needs a good torch, and the Ronson's are pretty damn impressive. Built like tanks, good, solid flame, and it always lights on the first click. I'll get one out to you on Monday.

Cheers,
Jeremy

Nice review! I have one of these resting but haven't tried one yet. Now I need to do that soon!

For other great COnnecticuts, try:

Cabaiguan
Perdomo ESV
Tobacco Baez
601 Black
Perdomo Champagne

Thanks so much for the recommendations!

Man, Perdomo Champagne is a good'n? I totally passed up on a GREAT price on a box of these because I thought "eh, they probably aren't so hot".

Hmmm...haven't had many Connecticut wrappers that I've really enjoyed. I'm curious now. Have to spark up that one that you sent me .

Nice review.

I do enjoy these smokes but feel they are a bit overpriced, unless you catch them on sale.

+1 for Cabaiguan, but they are even more expensive, but IMHO a better smoke.

Yeah, what's with the price of these?

Also, the apparently "incredibly limited quantities". You don't even have the OPTION of buying a box of them on CI. You can only get 5-packs, and you can only get 1 5'er of each size.

You referring to the Virtues? No idea why CI/cigar.com prices and sells them the way they do. NEVER buy them outside out of a deal.

The Perdomo Champagnes are a good connie too and monster usually has em 5 for $16. Not quite as good as the virtues, but a very creamy, complex connie. Monster actually just had the 601 blacks up for $15.98 shipped two nights ago. Still haven't tried em, though.

Great cigar, great review. Most flavorful Connie I've ever had, but I need to try more before I can claim it king (at least for myself). IMO this beats out the Champagne hands down, I just enjoy the flavors more, but you should definitely try it out for yourself.

Wait on boxes, get 5ers. You can score Cabaiguan 5ers on cbid for like $5/stick sometimes which is nuts. The Perdomo ESV is tougher to find now (discontinued), but the others on my little list can be found on cbid too.
