  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I smoked this cigar as part of a cigar pass so I had no idea what I was smoking. Actually just found out this morning

Size: 6x52 or 54 (sorry forgot to measure it)
Wrapper: Beautiful, chocolate brown and oily
Vitola: Belicoso (? wasn't paying alot of attention)
Cutter: Xikar Guillotine
Lighter: Vector 4-jet
Weather: 50 degrees with a slight breeze
Beverage: Coke Zero (a huge mistake)
Strength: Full. Body: Full
Construction: I wouldn't normally bother, but this cigar was constructed in a fashion I had never seen and the picture doesn't do it justice. The filler was wrapped in the "book" fashion while the binder was done in the more traditional roll, It was very interesting because, like I said, I had never seen a cigar rolled in this fashion. The wrapper had minimal veins and a few blemishes which appeared to be from handling. There were no soft spots.
Ashe: Beautifully layered and white. Crystallization of the ash really drove home that this was going to be a good cigar. The ash held for almost half the cigar which I don' see very often.
Burn: Razor sharp for the first half and then it began to waiver, but eventually corrected itself. No touch-upsd were required.
Pre-light: Notes of tobacco and a slight sweetness. There were underlying notes of coffee

Now, let's getting moving.

First 1/3: After lighting and allowing the cigar to rest for a few minutes the first few draws were of leather, dark chocolate and a very slight floral note. The dark chocolate eventually dissipated into mocha and spice and white pepper came to the forefront and really hung around for the rest of the first 1/3. The ashe was holding strong and the cigar provided copious amounts of smoke which left a great creamy texture on the palate.

Second Third: Second third found the cigar to really be hitting it's stride. The white pepper and spice was still there, but was now in your face. I was really digging the blend and the subtle flavor shift. Towards the end of the second 1/3 the leather notes decreased to almost an oaky flavor.

Final 1/3: One reason I'm no longer fond of this vitola is the harshness that usually comes along with it.The flavor profile didn't necessarily change much, but took on an overpowering bitterness which drowned out the subtlties of the cigar. The flavor didn't necessarily change, but took on a acrid flavor.

Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this cigar from beginning to end. The flavor profile was right in my wheelhouse and you can't beat a cigar that is well constructed and flavorful. Additionally, I really loved how it coated the palate in cream followed by a tingly sensation (hmmmm......). I would definitely smoke it again.

Score: :angel::angel::angel: Jerry's out of 5. This cigar was really a sunshine daydream!!

well done capttrips...

the ruination is probably my favorite of the MoW line... with the virtue running a close second (great early morning smoke when paired with strong coffee)... Im a big fan of just about everything AJ Fernandez does.. really didnt smoke a whole lot of his stuff until the last six months or so.. but I stay stocked up on diesels, MoW, nica libre, and a bunch of his other stuff now.. I think Ive still got several moro castles stuffed in the bottom of a tupperadore as well somewhere..
