  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The wrapper is so thin you can see the dark binder leaf below. The shaggy foot is very loose and fluffy, I hope that the ash doesn't flake all over the place once I lite this bad boy up. Be careful when handling this stick because the wrapper is very delicate.

The beginning profile has the tartness of a cranberry (not flavor) slightly creamy with a balanced amount of spice. The body is light and bright while the spice and nicotine give the cigar depth. Great draw, slightly loose but enough restriction to allow for great combustion. This cigar is starting to roll along, building in creaminess and adding honey, sandalwood with a powdered sugar sweetness to the profile. The shaggy foot has held on and I'm happy to say that it didn't flake away like I was initially concerned it would.

I'm about 1.5 inches in and the cigar is really starting to establish itself. The profile starts out bright, the sweet and creamy honey, spice and sandalwood deepen the profile through the middle and finishes tart, like a dry wine. The strength is medium and the cigar is burning down fairly evenly. As long as I don't have to pull out the torch for touch ups, I don't mind a bit of wiggle. The tartness I'm getting actually threads from beginning to end of the profile as you exhale/retro but becomes more pronounced on the finish. I can feel the strength in my belly and a bit of a buzz but it's gentle and surprising. (Had to bust out the torch for a quick correction) Don't let the Connecticut wrapper fool you, this cigar came to play. It's not overpowering but it's not your average Conny either and will satisfy your N craving indeed.

I've reached the middle of this toro and it brings with it richness and an uptick in the sandalwood note. There is a bit more spice and the smoke leaves the mouth dry, so I recommend having something to wet your palette. I'm drinking coffee, black but I think a nice lightly sweetened green tea would go great with this stick, even an Arnold Palmer would do the trick! This is a stick that you can enjoy without much effort. The profile is straight forward, the flavors are defined and you don't have to reach down deep to get them; It is consistent and memorable.

This cigar could be a stronger morning smoke paired with a biscotti, scone or muffin and coffee/tea and it would work well after a white meat dinner with your favorite glass of bourbon. These are what come to mind when I picture pairing but I'm sure it's versatile enough to go with many different combinations. Although, the profile does not have drastic transitions and becomes a bit too familiar when concentrating on nothing but the smoke for the entirety. If you are looking for quality tobacco in a consistent format, this stick is for you. If you're interested in complexity and evolving flavor transitions, this Toro will probably be a bit much for you and I'd recommend going with a shorter offering. Over all the quality is there, the tobacco has some great flavors and the construction, although needing a few touch ups, for the most part is excellent. This stick has a great draw, decent burn and a beautiful presentation. Even if it doesn't end up being your goto stick, you'll still be getting what you paid for, which is premium tobacco in a well constructed stick that's easy on the eyes. (Although I do find the MSRP a bit overreaching at $16.00 but the quality is there and this is a smaller boutique brand)
