  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anybody ever have a problem with moldy beads? I pulled out a small glass candle holder full of beads I have in the back of my cabinet near the hydra and noticed they had black areas on them. They were wet, but not soaking there were some white beads. I guess I will toss them, but I have never had this happen before...

I thgought the heartfelt beads were antimicrobial, but I cant remember where I read that.

It's not that your beads are moldy, they probably absorbed something in your humi, I have had that happen to mine. are you using distilled water?

Yep, just distilled water, I cant imagine they are absorbing anything, it is just one container also, I have 6 or 8 glass candle holders with beads throughout the cabinet, although it is not fuzzy mold, it is black patches. I guess I should have taken some pictures...

I just had always thought they were antimicrobrial, and should not get moldy.

Standing water in any humidifier can propagate mold.

Make sure you only hydrate them so approx 70% of the RH Beads are wet and 30% are dry.

I hope this helps

Were the black beads more toward the bottom of the candle holder? Just thinking that the beads work best when arranged so they have the most possible surface area exposed. That being said, the best arrangement would be if they were in a shallow flat container rather than a tall cylindrical type container. Just thinking out loud here.
