  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Tonight I enjoyed my first Montecristo Platinum Vintage 1999 , a 50x6 toro.

I'm a fan of the Montecristo White, so when I heard another fan of that cigar say they really like the Platinum I was eager to try mine that had been sitting in the humidor for three months.

This has a thicker wrapper than the other Montecristo's I've enjoyed and the consequence of that is that it had a more ragged burn - something I never had from any of my other Montecristos. The draw was also a bit more firm than I'm used to from Montecristo as all of the others I've smoked have been more loose, but what I'd call perfect.

The smoke output was classic Montecristo - perfect, and the construction was superb.

This one also burned slower than the other Montecristo toros I've enjoyed so I ended up getting about 90 minutes before I tossed it with about 1.5" left (ran out of time).

This was a excellent sweet cocoa/coffee flavored smoke with a lot more pepper than the White. Like all Montecristos it's pretty one dimensional so it didn't vary much, but I enjoyed the flavor so that didn't bother me a bit.

It did require a few touchups because the wrapper wasn't burning evenly, but beyond that it was a flawless smoke.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Here's the ugly cell phone burn down shots:

If you've smoked this cigar, share your thoughts about it.

nice review.
I really like these and you can find them for a good price at c-bid. usually around 3.50 to 4.00 per cigar, about half of retail. I bought my first one several yaers ago while down in the Caribbean. It was covered in plume so that made me believe they would age good. Since then I've aged them and if you can let them sit for a few years you will be rewarded, I promise.

Good to know - I haven't tried CigarBid.com yet.

My local B&M has them in Tubos and they are covered in plume. He assured me that's a good thing (as does CA here) but I'm still reluctant about the whole plume thing. ;-)

I'm more inclined to get the White since I liked it a little better, but if I caught a deal on these or was offered one I'd gladly indulge.

LOL! I was a little "worried" the first time i noticed it also.
The plume is just the oils in the wrapper crystallizing and causing the wrapper sometimes to look like it's covered in powdery white spots. Those Monte Platinums your BnM has sound good to me.
Be careful going to C-bid.....it could end up being addicting..........That's why most people call it the "Devil Site"

Careful.... "plume" in a tubo 99.9% of the time is really mold. You can easily see this to be true by the number of "plume or mold" threads that have been posted here.

Truth. Not to mention plume is a potential result of long term aging, not an indication that a stick will age well. Sounds very suspect.
