  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I fired one of these up after my smokin' tennis match yesterday (I won 3 sets: 6-3, 6-4, 7-6). After a bit of lunch I went outside on the back deck to enjoy the great weather (sunny + 70F).

Size: 7" x 54 churchill
Wrapper: CT Shade
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: DR / Nicaraguan

I wanted to try these long ago, but the outrageous prices ($10) always kept me away. A few weeks ago, an online vendor had fivers on sale for $20 ... so I took the plunge.

Pre-Light: Good looking light tan wrapper with several medium veins. It's somewhat light for a big stick, but doesn't feel underfilled. The aroma is very barnyardy ... hay, old wood and horseshit.

First 1/3: Nice easy draw with plenty of thick bluish/gray smoke. Very mild at this point with flavors of light wood and dried grass. The aftertaste is very creamy though. Even burn with solid ash.

Second 1/3: The draw and burn are still going good. The body has picked up a notch to a mild-medium point. Flavors are mild tobacco, cedar, hints of caramel and a touch of white pepper. The creaminess on the finish continues and is quite nice. Sort of reminds me of the early green band Mayorgas that I enjoyed back in the late 1990's.

Final 1/3: The cigar really shines here. Burn and draw are still excellent. The body again ticks up a notch to medium. Flavors are mostly cedary tobacco, some sweet spices and waves of dark chocolate. This combined with the creaminess on the finish makes this seem a bit like a chocolate milk shake. I smoked this down to just past the band - just less than an inch left. Total smoke time = almost 2 hrs.

Overall this was a good cigar and one that would go well with a cup of morning coffee on a lazy weekend.
No way in hell I'd spend $10 on these ... but $4 is fair price.

I'd say this is a good cigar when purchased at a price point that you mentioned. $10 is way too much for this cigar and that is why you see JR's putting them on sale as much as they do. I prefer the JR Ultimate over the Montes anymore because they are better and cheaper.

I love the references to hay, old wood and "horseshit" :crackwhip
Did you grow up on a Farm? *lol*

Cigary you made a great point about the "JR Ultimates".... they only
sell those in bundles though huh?

All in all i'll look for a deal and try them out.....

Any of you brothers ever smoke any of the Monte's w/ the H2000 wrapper?

both statments here are spot on. Good breakfast smoke, and way overpriced.

I've enjoyed these when I first started smoking, I smoked one that was aged in my humidor for about three years and it was like smoking water.

EDIT: What I really liked about it was that, it left 0 aftertaste in your mouth after smoking. These are great for mornings. Burn and construction are pretty good too.
