  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I smoked two of these within the past week and here is my review. Please keep in mind that people have different tastes and what I may like or dislike, might be someone else's choice. One cigar I drank water and the other I drank Sprite (was working, so could not partake of a preferred libation.)

This cigar is made by the Fuente Family. It is a 6 7/8 X 43 cigar, Lancero, which is one of my favorite vitolas. It is made from Connecticut Shade leaf wrapper and Dominican binder/filler. This was one of the selections from the Dog Watch Cigar Club, a great opportunity to try cigars that you may not otherwise locate or try.

Pre-light inspection shows this is a well made cigar. Wrapper is well made and medium tightly packed. No large veins on the wrapper. Crown was a little off, but a cigar can't always be perfect. Scents of light wood and leather emit from this cigar. Pre-light taste gives off a citrus/woody flavor. Light restriction in the draw, but did not seem to be a problem.

After cutting with my Palio, which neatly cut this cigar, I toasted the cigar. Very easy cigar to light. Good amount of grey smoke came was created. Good draw on the cigar, which appeared to burn very well. Flavors of light cedar, leather and citrus still come from this cigar. Very mild cigar, which to me lacked good flavor.

Into the second third, the flavor changed to a metallic taste, resembling Zinc, as well a sour grapefruit. Cigar still had a good burn, draw and a good amount of smoke. No issues with the wrapper.

Final third of the cigar remained to have the Zinc and grapefruit taste. Light cedar and leather also came through. Nicotine also began coming through this cigar. I only smoked each of these cigars to about two inches, as the taste was unbearable to me.

Overall, theses cigars are too mild for my taste. Although, the construction of this cigar was excellent, as were the draw and burn, I personally will not smoke or buy any of these cigars. This is not a reflection on any other Fuente Cigar, as this particular line does not fit into my taste preference. Again, different smokes for different folks. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this one a 6.4. It is a shame that this cigar was not as good as I expected it.

To me, this cigar might be more suited for a newer smoker or someone that likes mild cigars.

Hope this review helps and thanks for taking the time to read.

I agree wholeheartedly. These are like buying a 40 oz beer; it's the bottom of the barrel and doesn't taste like the rest of the barrel, i.e. this is not what made the fuentes famous but rather whats left over from making all those good cigars. I've had a few and didn't care for them. I have one in the humi that will surely go to some drunk bastid who thinks they want to smoke a cigar.
