  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

more XiKar warranty goodness

We all know how great XiKar's warranty is... but.. I thought I would share yet another success story and tell how great a company this is to deal with (while at the same time compliment one of my local B&M's..)...

I made a trade here several months ago for a new, in the box XiKar table lighter..

used the lighter maybe 8 or 10 times.. and then suddenly last week it stopped working....

Thinking it might be a fuel problem (shouldnt be.. I was on the first tank.. and it was filled with XiKar fuel.. but.. you never know...).. I purged it and refilled it... still no flame..

short version of a longer story is it was not producing a spark...

so I take it to the closest B&M to my home, Silo Cigars in Knoxville (GREAT shop by the way) and ask if they can help get it running again.. dont really need to take advantage of the warranty if they can just get it to spark for me, etc..

they insisted that they exchange it for me.. pulled another new lighter out of the display case.. fueled it up to confirm that it worked properly.. and sent me on my way.... I was literally in and out of there in less than 5 minutes...

that is simply service and a dedication to quality (both on the part of the Silo and XiKar) that cant be beat...

<------- another highly satisfied customer that will continue to buy from both companies...

But doesn't it make you wonder why they make/market/sell an expensive product which quits working after less than a dozen uses?
The concept of offering a lifetime warranty is great; the necessity of having to use it sucks, IMO!

not at all...

Ive never had to take my Xi2 or Xi1 cutter in... never had a problem with any other XiKar lighters.. etc...

but.. the one time, and one time only I have had a problem.. it was dealt with quickly and professionally...

cant say the same thing for the colibri lighters I have had crap out (just as expensive)... or a host of other accessory products I've owned by other manufacturers..

You can't beat their customer service. I dropped a lighter and sent it to them to fix figuring that I broke it so it's probably going to cost me something to fix. Got it back a week later, No Charge!

I sent my Xikar Geneses in due to it failing to light. Yes, I blew compressed air around the flame area, purged it several times and I use only Vector 5X fuel. Got it back in a couple of weeks and so far, so good.

I've had a couple of lighters break and an x2 and the palio like one. However, I had a palio break also so maybe it's just user error.

Just picked up an inexpensive Xikar cutter on the Monster... Glad to hear more good things! Waiting to see the difference over the $1 gas station cutters I have

I'll stick to dupont. Shouldn't ever need a warranty.
This is an obserd statement.
Perhaps but in my personal case it is not. I've owned a st dupont torch and mini for 2+ years and have never once had an issue. Using both several times a week in a variety of conditions whether it be inside or seaside on a boat.

Wouldn't you like to know, IL
So if in three years it fails, arent you going to want that warranty? Is your opinion going to be the same? Nothing is built with such consistency that 100% will have no problems ever. So in the case of human error or premature failure, a quality company will have a program in place to make things right.

I think what we can take out of this is that you prefer dupont. Lol. It's not a bad choice by any means.

I can say the same with my Xikars. Never had an issue with years of use.

From a retailers standpoint......cant be beat. Better than the old " If it breaks in half , you own both halves" warranty of others. They are very easy to deal with.

I just debt in an xi1 and xi2 for sharpening after many years of use. I got 2 new in box replacements with about a 2 week turn around. I'm very happy with their service!

Sent an xi1 in for sharpening and the little knob was sticking, so i wanted that fixed. They sent back a Ultraslim xikar cutter, different kind of cutter but i can't complain it fits in my wallet and is super sharp.
