....we have XM at work and today I heard a song that sounded cool but have NO idea who it was.

It was on channel 54 "Lucy" ("alternative")

The music was that funky, 70s sounding choppy guitar funk. (kind of like the guitar in some of older Beastie Boys songs "Paula Boutique?")

Since finding this song is probably impossible, any know of some good funk?

Went through a funk phase not to long ago

George Clinton / Parliament Funkadelic
Mothership Connection - favorite album
Greatest Funking Hits (or any compilation)
also anything early or live - some singles inlcude
Tear The Roof Off the Mutha (We Want The Funk)
Atomic Dog (George Clinton)
Free Your Mind
Mke My Funk the P-Funk

Bootsy Collins was the bands second bass player and had a great solo album; Ah The Name's Bootsy Baby.

The creator of Funk, imho, was Larry Graham. He was the bass player for Family Stone. He had his own group, Graham Central Station. A couple of years ago he was in Prince's band.

Tons more but start with the best, George Clinton.

That's plenty for a while boy from Virginia.

Bootsy is the coolest!!!
Got to meet him once when I lived in cincinnati. (he lives there as well)
Saw him without the wild clothes and glasses. Still not going to mistake him for a wall street banker.

Put some of that stuff into pandora and see what comes up.

Also, James Brown!!!!
Pandora is 'da bomb.

Not a fan of labels, but think of JB as different.
Transcends categories ... soul pop funk
Quite a career and definite funk sounds but different .... best described as unique.
