  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

My palate is refined enough to give this cigar an enthusiastic thumbs down. I have never heard of the brand anywhere outside of my local cigarette shop (a quick internet search revealed nothing). Retail price is $1.99 per ea.

The reason I picked it up is that I, while I am more than happy to pay $10, $15 or more for a cigar, I am looking for a daily smoker that is in the $4 or less range. I bought one of these and two A Fuentes Brevas Royales.

Looking at the All American, it looked pretty good. It was a darker wrapper and the veins were quite small. Looking at the the filler tobacco, there were no dramatic changes in color. Pretty even. I lit the thing and the first draw tasted a bit metallic, but I supposed that I probably got the lighter too close.

The first 3 or 4 draws weren't bad and I thought that maybe I found my cheap, daily smoker. Then suddenly, the taste changed. It got bad. Very bad. I don't know what happened, but I threw it out the window.

My friend also bought one and smoked it in his truck. When we got to our destination, I asked him if he enjoyed it and he said that he threw his out the window after about a half dozen draws too.

There was a taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I quickly lit the last cigar I had in my travel humidor to get rid of the taste: A Macanudo Maduro. Only later did I figure out what the mysterious taste was: rotten vegetables. It had the very subtle taste of rotten vegetables. I asked my friend and he said it tasted like spinach to him.

So this smoke gets two thumbs down.

Ouch, man. That sounds pretty rough. But at least it was cheap! If I ever run across that cigar, I'll make sure to keep it far away from open flames.
