A thunderstorm hit us last night and the lights went out. Sad except that it gave me an excuse to sit in the garage, listen to the generator and stick my hand in the "Bullpen Humidor"
I pulled out a Nacionales W that I purchased from CigarKing. I grabbed this after reading Angry Bill's wonderful Don Pepin Guide. Pepin has been putting out more new blends that a rabbit puts out bunnies. With so much output, I wonder when the quality will suffer or when he will start repeating himself.
Let me tell you that Pepin has not repeated his past great blends nor has the quality dropped. I was slightly skeptical when i purchased this one but it only took one puff of this beauty to win me over.
That wonderful Pepin spiciness is there in all of its glory. Coffee predominates closely followed by a earthy/grass-like flavor. All flavors were well balanced. The spice, coffee and earthtones were steady from start to finish.
She had a kick up until a bit past the half way point where she began to mellow. At the last third, Pepin hit me square between the eyes with both barrels ... but it was never overwhelming. Nice and balanced... always spicy.
The construction was flawless. I lit her once and never touched it again.
I do not understand why Garcia says that this is close to what the rollers used to smoke in Cuba as it stands on its own merits.
This gal was very unique in the Pepin line. I can not wait to try the Havana Soul and Cuban Diplomat.
Jose Garcia has always outdone himself and this is no exception.
