They haven't decided yet...one of the ideas on the block is to grandfather them in until there current sponsorship obligations are fulfilled in 2009.

It's like anything else, a strong monopoly in sports takes away from the actual sport of it.

It's slightly different in NASCAR though. They aren't doing it because Rousch cars are good and winning really. They are doing it because the multi-car teams have a huge advantage over single car teams as far as R&D and financing goes. They may all be Rousch owned cars but to the public eye they are individual teams.

The highest placed single car team is Ricky Rudd at 21st place. That's why they are doing it really. It doesn't affect the sport itself so much as it makes it harder for them to attract new teams and new ownership or sponsorship.

Ah, I really don't know much about Nascar and was throwing my two cents in.

Those points definitely make sense, in that sport if you can figure out how to go faster more efficiently, you are going to do better. With five race teams you have the economy of scale working for you.

Yup...and there is an added wrench involved with NASCAR (pun not intended)...sponsors.

After the winnings are given out NASCAR gets paid by the ticket sales and the teams get paid by sponsors. Hell, even most of those winnings are paid by other sponsors.
