  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

After over a hundred years of a play being dead at the sound of the whistle, the NCAA has decided to change a rule allowing instant replay to change possion of the football after after a pass that was called incomplete on the field.

EX:

If the pass was ruled incomplete on the field, but instant replay shows it was a fumble, then the recovering team (assuming there is a clear view of the recovery) will get the ball at the spot of the recovery.

Now I am all for the change, but mark my words, this will cause atleast one season ending injury. It will happen due to some players stopping their play at the whistle and others continuing to play untill the ball is recovered. All the way back to PeWe football you are taught to play until the whislte. You do not stop before or play after.

Too much money is at stake to get a call wrong if you can avoid it.
I am all for the rule change, but the officials should not blow the whistle until the ball is dead. When there is a incomplete pass/fumble possible out come they should swallow the whistle untill it is clearly a dead ball.

I am all for getting the call right. I am a big believer in instant replay. I think MLB should use it for fair/foul balls, home run/no hone run, and safe/out at a base.

However, this rule change can affect not only the out come of games, but also players health, and lively hood down the road.

The problem to me will be getting "all" the officals on the same page....it seems anymore that the offical closet to the action is the one that doesn't want to make "the call."
