Need a second set of clubs - Calloway Big Bertha?

I left my clubs at my parent's place in MX, thinking that I would play mostly on vacation, but I am sick of renting and need a second set.

Still a total beginner, so looking at a set of Big Bertha irons...any experience and/or recommendations?

Scheduled to go the Performance Center here in MA for a custom fitting on Monday (6"8 and left-handed).

Big Berthas are a great pick - very well made and enough "help" in them to make the game fun for a beginner. Did I read correctly that you are 6'8"? You will definitely need and benefit from the fitting session.

I would tell anyone looking for clubs to demo as many different sets as possible and find the ones you like best. If you have played the Berthas before and like them then go with that, but always try a few others out as well. I also would recomend a basic fitting too. Being that tall to you may need some small adjustments as far as length of club or lie angle.

Yep...6"8. My existing set of clubs are Hogans, which I really like and which were custom fit, as you both mentioned. I need a couple inches of extensions as well as a flattening of the lie angle.

I know it is hard to demo clubs when you are tall like that and left handed, but I would try if you can to do so. A few months ago I demo'd close to 10 sets before picking a set. In my book they have to be well suited and aesthetically pleasing.

I have Ping I-3+'s that are factory plus an inch. The heads are also bent. I am 6'4, but have had knee surgery so i am forced to make up for some of the lack of flex there. GO to the fitting and hopefully demo what you can. It is hard to demo clubs when you are tall but try all you can.

I use Adam's and love them. I have used Taylormade and Callaway and would take my Adam's over them any day.

What is your most common "miss"? Slice, hook, or are you like me and do not discriminate against one side of the course or the other. :nodlaugh:

Btw, I feel your pain on the left-handed thing and not being able to demo much of anything. Believe it or not though, being a beginner and a lefty is better than being a lefty and looking for "players" clubs. Damn the discrimination!!

personally play a set of Ben Hogan Apex FTXs and love them! Pings are always a pretty forgiving club, as long as theyre cavity back of course.
