Well guys as many of you know I am an HK nut and own almost every model that they have come out with as of late. My crown jewel pistol is my unfired Mark23 that I have held on to for a few years now. Recently i had someone offer a 2.5inch Colt Python in like new condition for the Mark23. Ive always wanted a Python especially one i could conceal carry on the regular and look like a Bad ass. I guess its a fair trade value wise and those pythons keep going up and up but idk if parting with my beauty is a great idea.

Just looking for some BOTL input to sway me either way. Thanx for reading and for your consideration.

That's hard to say. The Python is a masterpiece, as it is all hand fitted... and the HK is, well, not.

But you also don't see many Mk23s around, especially ones with the LAM (I doubt you have that). I'd never carry either, and probably shoot them equally rarely... so it would personally be trading one safe queen for another.

I'd personally take the Python, assuming it was in great condition, but that's because I prefer hand fitted stuff.

You should also check which holds more value: the 2.5in Pythons or the longer barrel variants. I know there is a difference, but I can not recall what it is.

Chad, that's a great opportunity! I've always wanted a python since I was a kid!

Those pony snake revolvers keep going up in value and hit across multiple markets. I think it's a better gun from a purely investment standpoint, and it's just bad ass to have one.

That said, you already know I'm not an HK collector and I have always had a soft spot for revolvers from a purely aesthetic standpoint as well. I'd take him on it.

Sell/trade it for a HK45 and whatever else you want. I found Mk23 ownership to be a serious letdown. Aside from the WOW factor, it sucks to carry, has no pic rails (early 90's design rails), attachments are 5x as expensive as for modern pistols because they know you have the $$$$$, and they were produced at least up to 2010 in difference frame colors. Appreciation in value is negligible. Edit: ZERO. Just checked.

I own HK P30s in both calibers w/ Bruce Grey trigger jobs, as well as a HK45. The HK45 is a vastly superior, useable, and IMHO sexier pistol than the Mk23. Good luck with your decision!

Thanx for the input. I have the pic rail adapter for my mk23 but I think I might go with the python. He also has a NATO preban Hk91 that he'd be willing to broker a deal on. That's unfired. I think I still might go python. Its got some swank ivory aftermarket grips too. Its been a safe queen for this fella for the last 20 years. I guess it makes more sense to go through with it.

Here's my hk
