  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Need some advice

I am planning on getting a box(of 25) for a fraternity event in the late summer. Many of the guys always want to try my cuban cigars but I usually don't have enough to really share with everyone who wants to try them. So I was thinking about getting a cheap(er) box of cuban cigars to give out at this event so everyone who wants to try a cuban can. Most of the people who will be smoking aren't usual cigar smokers so I don't want to waste a nice cigar on people who probably can't tell the difference between a Cohiba and a Quorum if they were unbanded.

So what I'm looking for is a box of cheap cubans that will be the best cigar for the money. I'm looking for something thats probably 42 RG at the least and 5 inches at the shortest. Maybe a PC or C size. A recognizable name brand would be nice. I was looking to spend $100 or under.

Here are some options I've looked at so far that pretty much fall under the perimeters I have. Any advice on what to get or something else to look at?

-Romeo y Julieta Mille Fleurs
-Romeo y Julieta Romeo No. 2 (Tubo)
-Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe No. 3
-Cuaba Tradicionales
-H. Upmann Regalias
-Hoyo de Monterrey Coronations (Tubo)
-Partagas Mille Fleurs
-Punch Coronations (Tubo)

The presentation of the Punch Tubos, would give them all a suvenier to take home with them. Just a thought on that one. What about Monte#5? they are smaller than you requested though.

Judging by your time frame you'll want something that's READY to smoke very soon.

Here's a few that come to mind....

Bolivar RC (higher dollar, but good right away)
RASS (under-rated stick, but still a little over your $100 by $30 - 45 or so)
Juan Lopez PC (an under-rated marque and right around your $100 budget)

Either of the above should be good right away and would be my recommendations. That said, I just dis'd on cubans in another thread.....so take my advice at face value, from someone who appreciates NC sticks moreso than Cubans...LOL!

Didn't even think of this one....as I thought the length was right around the size of the SCdLH El Principe, making it shorter than he was looking for (5").

Upon further review...I was wrong!...LOL!

Boli PC would also be an excellent choice and fit in your budget and size parameters.

Dprice brings up a good point about factoring in the presentation, since it sounds like most aren't regulars. Tubos will leave them with something to remember and they are always nice to be able to reuse.

The Boli PC is probably one of the better tasting cigars, as far as flavor goes (JMHO) but most probably wouldn't have the developed pallet for the flavors anyway.

The tubo mentioned makes a lot of sense. Everyone will love the keepsake and probably not remember much about the cigar itself.

Just my .02

I must have overlooked the boli pc. Thats right in the price zone. Do you think the boli would be too rich/strong for beginner smokers compared to some of the other options? I love all the boli's I've had but I love strong cigars and seem to remember the boli's being some of the stronger cubans I've had.

Ya know.....not sure....that's a good question. I don't really think of the Boli's as strong. Flavorful yes but strong..well.....ya maybe. I know they are strong enough that if you smoke one on an empty stomach, it will make you light headed. Definately something to consider.

The Juan Lopez are a very under rated cigar that is very good, good flavor, and probably a little less strong, nic wise. (Just from my experience anyway)

I'd go with the Boli PC. Very consistant cigar & tastes good fresh. 09s smoking very well. JL PCs also a nice cigar, but IMHO, needs more time. 07s smoking well but 08s still rather harsh.

They are a bit shorter than you specified but you can't go wrong with a box of partagas shorts. they are much better than the Mille Fleurs IMO
