  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The Specs
Manufactured: Nicaragua
Length/Gauge: Robusto Grande (5.5" x 54)
Wrapper/Filler: Two binders - a Dominican Corojo ’98 and a Nicaraguan Habano ’00/blend of Nicaraguan Pelo de Oro and Dominican San Vicente long-fillers/Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper from 2006.
Price: ~$7.00

Appearance
Very nice appearance, dark brown Corojo wrapper. Feels heavy for the size of the stick. No viable seams, nice triple cap. Very nice looking stick; reminds me a lot of a LP T52.
Grade: A

Construction
No soft spots or other issues that I can find. Cap cut cleanly with my Xiara V-cutter. Pre-light draw was spot on.
Grade: B

Flavor
Pre light draw flavors are rich earthiness with some spice on the lips.

Lighting it up, the stick produces thick, chewy smoke. Rich tobacco flavor with a very nice spice on the pallet that lingers all the way through the finish.

About 1” in, very rich flavors of earth with the spice very front and center. It’s not an overwhelming blast of pepper, but rather a very nice tingle. Easily a medium+ right now.

The ash is bright white and seems to hold on forever.

About 2” in now and the ash is leaning quite a bit, this will definitely require some touching up. No flavor changes.

Well into the 2nd third and the stick has required several touch-ups. Still very spicy up front, with some hints of toasted nuts and dark chocolate. It reminded me of one of those dark cocoa chocolate bars with spice.

½ in and really having trouble keeping it lit; I bought this stick about 2 weeks ago and it’s been in my regular 70/70 wineador. This stick would probably have benefited from some dry boxing.

Just over the ½ way mark, no flavor changes to speak of, spice is still very prominent. I would say this is a full(-) at this point.

Unfortunately I’m still having issues keeping it lit and I’m going to throw in the towel.

Grade: B

Value
At $7 I think it’s a fair, but not great price point.
Grade: C

Final Thoughts
If you like a full bodied stick with spice, it’s hard to go wrong with this. I’ll definitely pick up a few more and see how they do with some age and dry boxing.
Final Overall Grade: B

Yeah this is one of my winter favorites. Although I've never had a problem with it not staying lit. I like the coffee break size with a dark roast coffee they pair together well.
