  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hi, My name is cory, New here from NC. My question is, When I first got into smoking, I was buying mix bags from the local smoke shop, trying to get a taste for what I liked. One of the cigars was a Flor de Oliva, Not the greatest, I know, but this one was great. It was light in color, and almost green. It had a sort of sweet taste, and it was very mild. Now when I look at the Flor de Oliva's in the shop, all I see is the same old bundles, that look nothing like what I had smoked years ago. Does anyone have any ideas of what it was? Right now I mostly smoke hoyo excalaburs, but I would love to find something with that sweet mild taste like that first Flor de Oliva had, if anyone can help . Thanks guys.

I'm a big fan of the Excaliburs, too. I went away from them for awhile while I was trying all sorts of new stuff. I decided to try one again last summer, and it was the best thing I could do. The box in my humi had aged a year and it was fantastic. Try letting some of those HdMs sit for at least 8 mos and you will see what I mean!

Welcome to the board. I agree with Altercall on the Excaliburs. Those have been my "Go To" cigar for some time. The Fuentes are a good deal too.

It sounds like he's describing a candela wrapper. I don't know flor de oliva that well to know if they make a cigar with a candela but there are other brands out there that do. I've never had interest in a candela though. This is what I found on a quick look about.

Check for:
Astral
Don Tomas
Camacho
Graycliff(if you have the $$)
Cuba Aliados

I have only been smoking and keeping track of smokes for the last 8 months or so, but i have never seen a FdO in a candela. That does not mean it doesn't exist.

Welcome Cory!
Like Angry Bill said, try the AF 858, good cigar. Arturo Fuente makes a Flor Fina 8-5-8 Claro (green Candela). Could that be what you’re thinking of instead of Flor de Oliva? Although, these are boxed not bundled.
