  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

It's a lager which are good summer beers. The grains were smoked with mesquite then used to brew the beer. You get just a subtle hint of mesquite flavor from the beer. I will be picking up some more of this beer.

My home station right now is Bamberg, Germany. Home of smoked malt beers. Schlenkerla Rauchbier being the most famous. People call it bacon beer. But when its fresh. It is an awesome substitute for breakfast.

Had some of this myself earlier in the summer and couldn't stand it. The smoke flavor is so overpowering that it's like drinking the smoke from a smoker. Absolutely disgusting IMO. I think "subtle" is not how I would describe the smokey flavor. lol..

It is good stuff I can't drink a ton of it but I do like it.

Smoked beers aren't for everyone just like peaty smokey Islay scotches aren't for everyone either.

Don't knock it till you try one. Some are super smokey like Schlenkerla Rauchbier and some just have a hit of smoke or barely noticeable. I just made my pumpkin ale with german smoked rauchmalt. It's hardly noticeable but I did it to work with the pumpkin for a roasted pumpkin flavor.

I'd sample one if given the opportunity, heck - I tried a Chipotle Beer why not a smoked one? (The chipotle one didn't work for me.) :crosseyed

I tried this recently & was not a fan. Just an odd flavor, IMO.

I am terrible in that I always seem to buy a six pack of a unique beer to try it. If I don't like the beer I will push it off on my friends to try.

I'd certainly give one another shot... Shiner's just made it seem like i was drinking ash from a texas BBQ pit.. :squinteye

Try some other versions of beer made with smoked malt. For those that don't like the intense flavor go with a smoked porter the maltiness can subdue the ashy flavor.

I think I'll be bottling my batch of barleywine this week that I made with peat smoked malt that has aged with oak for three months.
