  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

i read somewhere that, internally, xikar people were calling it the "pali0-killer." I'm not saying it's true, just that i read it somewhere.

I'm thinking it may be time to grab a few Palios to set aside for aging. I'm not a huge fan of XiKar, as much of their stuff is just Chinese crap with a label on it. Looks to me like the teardrop cutter has lost it's novelty, and Xikar feels it can jump in and rip off the real deal. I would hate to think this hurts the Palio guys, but it can't help em.

well there's a coupon for a free one w/ the purchase of 6 of their cigars on their website if anyone would like to do a comparison. I for one don't agree with knock-offs.

I for 1 don't agree with the idea that Xikar makes a good product. All their crap falls apart or doesn't work after a few months. I can buy several models of Xikar lighters at my gas station for $7 with a Tiger Logo. They have a lifetime guarantee, the problem is that you have to use it.

I just received my order for the new carbon fiber X8 and here are my thoughts:

Pros:
Carbon fiber looks cool from afar.
Lightweight
64 RG
sharp blades
smooth cut

Cons:
from up-close, the carbon fiber looks painted on
not as comfortable in my hands as my Palio, feels kind of flimsy
tracks dont feel as sturdy as my Palio

Overall:
Even though I admit that I am a fan of Xikar, the X8 does not compare to my Palio. While the X8 is a good cutter in itself, it falls short of the Palio tenfold. And while I did not pay a lot ($18) for the X8, IMO, the extra $10-15is worth it for the Palio.

Disclosure: I have no vested interest in either Xikar or Palio companies.

The one listed on Xikar's website right now says "Carbon Fiber Look", and yes it is indeed painted on (I saw it at IPCPR), just like it is painted on the Palio Carbon Fiber.

However, I did also see a true Carbon Fiber version of the cutter as well. The pic I took of it was a little blurry...but it was sitting next to the painted version, as well as next to their new V-cutter. That new V-cutter is pretty solid....especially compared to the Wolf V-cutter.

I posted a link to my IPCPR photos here: thread.
