  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I've been a fan of Xikar cutters for what seems like forever. A year or two ago I was given the Xi1 Room101 as a gift from my Boss / Hunting Buddy.

Between the warranty, free sharpening, etc., this has been my goto cutter since I received it. Only issue I have with Xikar cutters is since they are spring loaded blades when the cutter rides in my pocket it often times pops open. I only realize it when I shove my hand in my pocket to get change and stick my finger in the hole on accident. Very creepy feeling. This prompted the recent purchase of this case. The Stingray case was all they had, a bit flashy but it was on sale so not so bad.

Now for the reason of this post.
Today my newest cutter arrived in the mail. The Xikar Xi3 Spalted Tamarind...the colors of this Im in love with. The shiny part is flashy, but I figure I'll keep it for herf's or cigar outings. Day to day activity I'll keep running the Rm101

Sure is pretty

I think if you register it they actually send you the stingray case free. At least they did with mine!
A free stingray with the spalted? I thought it was just a free leather one. Very cool, will have to break the box back out and check the paperwork. Thanks for info.

Not sure, I guess...
When I registered my Xi3 they sent the stingray.
When I registered my MTX scissors, they sent the leather.

Those are some sweet looking cutters. Forgive my newbness, but looks aside what's the difference between the 2 versions
As a side note, never ever be ashamed to ask a question, we all have been there at one point or another. For the most part, there are some of us you need to watch out for, we will give you tongue in cheek responses, along with your answer.

Yeah, never be ashamed. Especially on this board. This has to been the second most welcoming spot on the internet. Second only to a cannibal's message board... They always love "fresh meat" there.

Thanks man that's what I figured. I remember looking at the xikar site and wondering if there was some small difference I just didn't notice. And don't worry I can handle the smart assery and will most likely add to it once I know what I'm talking about

Sorry Trey, I missed your post earlier. Many folks think its just difference of paint or looks, but there's more to it than that.

The Xi1 cutters are more industrial. It has an Aluminum body with all screws being visible. The hinge point is a pass thru style rivet (the Xi3 has a screw).

The Xi3 cutters are more of a refined look from the opening slide difference to no visible screws, except the hinge screw. The Xi3 cutters have Polished Stainless bodies, not aluminum.

The blades are the same however. Both being 440 stainless steel with an HRC of 57.
