  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Was at a 40th birthday party last weekend and brought a few cigars to pass out and at the end of the night (or early morning, rather!) I couldn't fing my Stratosphere. Asked the birthday boy the next day to keep an eye out for it just in case. Nothing. Oh well, I guess it's time to go buy another lighter. I go to my B&M and really liked the XTX Double! Fits in the pocket nicely, nice thumb action, large fuel capacity w/ window and it just looks great! Buy it and I'm as happy as a pig in shit as it's the first real "nice" lighter that I've had. On the way back from the B&M I stop for a couple of drinks with a couple of neighbors that were at the party as well. You guessed it! One of them says, "BTW, I think I have your lighter." :angryteet LOL! Oh well, now I have another!

Nice buy!! What color did you get?

I have an Element and a Enigma.

You can never really have too many lighters.

A friend recommended this lighter. I just bought one and waiting for its arrival. I am cursed with Xikar lighters. I hope this one is sturdy because I chain smoke sticks and it needs to hold up well. Cigar Monster is really pushing this lighter and they go for $47.

I dont know if this your case or not but I have noticed lots of cigar smokers put their cigar too close to the flame. While lighting and puffing, smoke, ash, residue gets into the jets of the lighter and eventually clogs them up. After toasting the foot, you can put the foot of your cigar about 1 inch above the visible blue flame and it will still light. I also angle the lighter so that the smoke, ash, etc wont blow back into the lighter.

I do a lot of cigar events and have lighters at the table for people to light up their cigar. 99% of them make that mistake even when I try to light for them. I will lower the lighter a little and they lower their head! LOL

Of course, this in addition to all the other comments on other threads about bleeding before refilling, not shaking the can before refilling, etc. One other that I have seen is if you dont plan on using your lighter for a while, bleed it empty. Its not good to leave the fuel in the lighter for long periods of time.

Good luck.

Hey Fia,

I believe I'm on the same page as you.
I try to toast the foot nicely so the actual procedure of lighting the foot is a mild gesture. I hold my cigars back at least an inch or two from the flame. I also regularly hit the jets with a blast of compressed air. I ALWAYS bleed the lighter. I never shake the butane can and I only use Xikar butane. I feel I am a responsible guy with my lighters....especially, since half of them are expensive.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Morrie...I believe you will like the lighter. It has a nice heft to it. My favorite of the line? Waivers back and forth between what I need it for. I guess my favorite all around is the Axia. Im using the Tech much more frequently now due to the large fuel tank. Indoors is definitely the EX. Enjoy.

An update on my XTX Double: so far, so good! I received my case/sleeve for it a couple of days ago and keep it in there while in my pocket just to protect against scuffs, etc.... Always get compliments on the lighter when someone needs a light as it's just a classy looking lighter!

The real test will be next time you go high altitude turkey hunting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new XTX will treat you better than the stratosphere did!
