Tobacco Giant
Conn. Broadleaf Slayer
Alright. So I decided to do my 2nd newb scavanger hunt review on one of my favorites, the JG RE.
Name: Jamie Garcia Reserva Especial Toro Gordo
Maker: Jamie Garcia
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
6x60
Aged only about 3 months.
The prelight smell was of sweet tobacco. The cold draw tasted the same.
Upon lighting, the 1st few puffs were a blast of spice, but that died down pretty quickly. Immediately after, a strong coco and chocolate taste took over and dominated the rest of the 1st third. I'm immediately reminded why this is one of my favorites.
Into the 2nd third, not much is changing. Strong coco which I'm thoroughly enjoying. Towards the end of the 2nd third I start getting some notes of...almond, maybe? I can't tell, although it's definitely nutty. And the chocolate taste remains as well. It's a nice contrast.
The last portion of the cigar continues with the same tastes, and I even start getting a slightly woody note.
Overall thoughts: Obviously I'm a huge fan of these and I've already bought a box, so these get 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up from me. From start to finish I got tons of smoke, an ash that went almost a full 5 inches (which I was aiming for for another newb scavenger hunt task). The burn was slightly uneven at times, but no need for touch ups. Personally, I think the slightly uneven burn is due to the large 60 ring gauge. Such large RG always have some slightly uneven burns for me.
See pics below, and just to reiterate, I love this cigar!
