This is my second review published for public consumption. Again, I want to thank DantheBugman for making this a Newb Scavenger hunt task and getting me off my butt to finally start posting reviews. For my second review, I wanted to revisit a cigar that Ive always enjoyed through the years, but due to limited production runs by Tatuaje can be somewhat difficult to find at times Tatuaje RC 184.
Wrapper: Habano Ecuador
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Tatuaje categorizes this as part of their Reserva line and is made in Miami, USA. RC stands for Retro Cuban with the 184 designation as the sticks length, 184 mm. The length in inches is 7 1/4" and the ring gauge is 54. There is another stick called RC233. The below image illustrates the size difference between the two RCs:
There are a few notable packaging differences with Tatuajes recent RC production run, which appear to have started with box dates of ERH AUG 11. Since I dont have an older RC184, the below images show the differences when comparing the RC233 bands.
The band states RC Series instead of RC233 and the fleur-de-lys has been replaced with the new Tatuaje symbol. Another packaging difference is with the box the sicker on the box resembles the new band.
1st and 2nd Third Impressions
The cigar starts off with the classic Tatuaje initial pepper that settles into a leather taste. As it approached the midpoint it started to pick up a slight cocoa and nutty taste while the pepper and leather taste began to taper off.
Final Third Impressions
Now I began to taste parts of all three flavors experienced earlier in the final third, slight cocoa, nutty, and leather tastes. The pepper also began to pick up again.
Overall Impressions
Ive smoke a few of the RC233s over the last year but all them had several years of age. It has been nearly 3 years since I had an older RC184. Needless to say, I wasnt expecting this cigar to have such pronounced flavors. Im not sure whether this cigar will smoke similar to those aged RC233s with some age, but it surprised me a bit. Another surprise was its strength - I wasnt expecting the strength at all and even had to take a breather after smoking it for 30 minutes or so before I smoked another cigar.
Overall, I really enjoyed the smoke. Hopefully, youll be able to find these at your B&M.
I appreciate any comments on the RC184 with some age and whether the flavors are as pronounced or if it mellows out as I suspect will occur.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
