Phooey! I wrote this review on my lunch break today. But when I got home, I now see that another newbie posted the same sticks review (a great one at that). But I'm still going to post mine, i did get a different take on mine
Surrogates Skull Breaker
Appearance: A few predominant veins but a great dark colored stick
Draw: fantastic
Drink: Arizona Sweet Tea (helped cut the pepper)
Decided to light up this cigar with a friend and fellow BOTL. Sat out on his porch, It was 78 and a bit of an overcast. Perfect smoking weather
Palio cutter and a friends ST Duponts single barrel lighter.
Pre light: tobacco/earthy. I did not pick up too much of the infamous pepper taste... YET!
1st Third: Pepper...in your face pepper, for me it is not harsh pepper. A bit of earthy tasting pepper to go with the pre light draw. A slight retrohale proves to be a bit overwhelming to the nasals. The ash is tight and fairly white.
2nd Third: still pepper, a bit of a sweeter tasting pepper though. Still a bit of an earthy undertone. Burn is decent, required a bit of a touch up/rolling to keep it straight.
3rd: more pepper, but now it's a stale pepper. Rather un complex stick. I ended up cutting this one a bit short due to my lack of interest caused by the unchanging flavor. I don't see the Viaje Skull and Bones reference too much, the pepper undertone of the Fat Man I had is about all I found to be similar...well that and the name/band
Not a big deal, but the bands came off really well. It's a pet peeve of mine when I need to cut a band off. So props to whoever made that.
Overall: not a bad stick, not a great stick. For the price, a better cigar can be had. Is it a good idea to have a cheaper strong stick resting for company or friends. Plus let's be honest, a cigar with this band and name is an eye catcher.
