I thought the super restrictive gun laws in NJ spared us from the anti-gun insanity that has been spreading around the North East lately. Guess I was wrong. Yesterday the Senate passed a bill previously passed by the Assembly, that would limit all firearms to 10 rounds (current is 15 rounds). Our only hope is for Christy to veto it, but I don't see that happening.

Last year the Assembly passed a dozen anti-gun laws, but so far the Senate hasn't voted on most of them. Elimination of mail order and internet purchases of ammo, banning .50 caliber and larger firearms (including shotguns with slug barrels), a State database tracking all ammo purchases, and requiring a certified firearms safety course before any purchase to name a few. Also all existing Firearms Purchaser ID cards will expire, requiring everyone with an existing one to apply for a new one. The old one was good for life, but the new one will have to be renewed every 5 years. Oh, and a real sweet one. If any health care worker (including a nurse, lab tec, etc.) suspects that you may be in danger of harming yourself, they can have all your firearms confiscated.

I'm out of here for good in a few months, but I feel for my brothers left behind.

I'm with you on this one brother. These restrictive gun laws don't do much in the way of deterring crime. Something tells me that a criminal isn't thinking, "Wait, I can't use this gun to rob this bank! It's got a 15 round magazine!" However, my 1911 and I are going to be sticking around Jersey for the foreseeable future.

Good call on moving buddy!
Make sure you let your representatives know that their overreach was partly to blame for your departure. (even if it wasn't) And tell both the pro gun and the anti. The pro gun politicians need to know, too, so they can cite these instances in their future battles!

IIRC, didn't NYC recently decide that 10 rounds wasn't safe enough either and went for seven? For some of these jokers is not about a solution to the root culture problem, it's about control. When the "seven" limit fails, then they'll want five. Maybe three is the magic number? It's a race to the bottom, but even a complete ban won't stop crime. It just leaves the law abiding citizen unprotected. Sorry for the rant. I know from prior discussions here that I'm preaching to the choir.
Best of luck on a smooth relocation, Argus!

According to the NRA-ILA, the Senate passed this along party lines, 21-17. All Dems voting for it, all Reps against. Again, our only hope is for Christy to veto it, but with his eye on the Presidency, and his need for liberal leaning independent votes, I'm pretty sure he'll sign it. As always, many conservative voters will overlook this, as they once again vote for the lesser of two evils.

I'm totally shocked, but yesterday, Christy vetoed the 10 round mag limit bill. I don't know if the House and Senate have enough votes to overturn his veto, but it still surprises me that he vetoed it. Maybe he's trying to get an NRA endorsement for his 2016 Presidential run.
