  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

No cigar cutter but needed a smoke

While I've been packing and packed away all my cigar accessories but wanted a smoke last night. Got in a real big fight with the girlfriend, I grab a book of matches, cigar and my iphone.

I was able to cut my cigar with my SOG Aegis knife and I was really surprised on what an amazing cut it produced. Cut clean through with no jagged edges. However at the very end I did tear off a slight piece of the wrapper but nothing that caused the cigar to unravel at all.

I was wondering if anyone uses a knife to cut their cigars. I normally keep my xikar cigar punch of my keys but packed it away as well. It wouldn't have been of any use as I smoked a Ybor City cigar.

Teeth (mine, the dog's, just kidding on the dog LOL), knife, whatever's handy if no cutter is around, but I check and double-check that I've got all my "utensils" (paraphanelia??) in my case.

Instead of one fell swoop I cut a full circle with it. Seems to work fine as long as it's not a torpedo.
Sage advice, yet again, from the gibbler. I will also do the same thing with my teeth if & when I am without a proper utensil (usually only on a trout stream)

I was at a bar in Baraboo WI last year for a friend's wedding and we got sloshed at the bar at the Wilderness hotel and decided to go outside to have a few cigars. I didnt have my cutter and asked the bartender if he had a knife or something. He gave me a bigass butcher knife to use and said it was probably the first time he ever gave a really drunk customer a knife. It worked perfect, easy chop cut.

Never tried a knife but I do have a good sharp one that could probably do the trick (an estate knife). You could always try punching a whole with your keys or if you have a good strong wooden match.

Teeth or my pocket knife if its not sitting next to my cutter at home. Bitting off the end of a cigar reminds me of my high school days, hanging around with my friends, smoking cheap cigars. We didn't even know there was such a thing as a cigar cutter.
